Welcome to Maycroft Care Home in Royston, situated in the village of Meldreth and just five miles from the town centre. Nestled in the heart of the countryside, our warm and friendly home is only 15 miles from Cambridge and just off the A10. If you are visiting via public transport, local train services from Royston and Cambridge stop at Meldreth station, which is a 10-minute walk from Maycroft.

Our expert team offer round-the-clock care for Residents, following our ethos of person-centred care. We focus on making sure each Resident has their emotional, medical, spiritual and nutritional needs met. Your Duties...


Work with the Home Manager and Head of Dementia & Wellbeing to engage with and implement Advinia’s Wellbeing and Engagement Programme - S.P.E.C.S.
Design and organise, in conjunction with Residents, a range of person-centred stimulating meaningful and engaging activities within the Home.
Develop, manage and coordinate new and ongoing meaningful engagement programmes that encourage Residents to maintain pre-existing interests and hobbies.
Encourage Colleagues, Residents, Relatives and Friends to participate in the Home's meaningful engagement programme and help to embed a whole home approach to activities.
Arrange trips and outings to enable Residents to engage in offsite activities to maintain their hobbies and interests.
Support with creating an engaging and stimulating environment throughout the Home that is appropriate to the needs of Residents.
In conjunction with the Home Manager agree and undertake fundraising opportunities to supplement activities budget.
Maintain an activities budget, in conjunction with the Home Manager for the provision of resources, outings and entertainment.
Maintain full and accurate records of activity budget spend.
Encourage, involve and support Residents with deciding on the range of activities that take place within the Home through the development of a Resident’s Committee, ensuring all Residents have a voice and the opportunity to contribute and provide feedback.
Ensure risk assessments have been completed for all activities and outings and reviewed as appropriate.
Maximise the use of resources that are available to support with delivering meaningful and engaging activities such as; Band App, Advinia Monthly themes, Moments that Matter initiative, My Life TV, Daily Sparkle, Advinia Virtual Tours.
To participate in and develop activities based on Advinia’s monthly activity themes, incorporating each of the areas of the S.P.E.C.S programme.
Recognise that some Residents may not want to (or are unable to) participate in group/ communal activities and therefore plan individualised 1-2-1 activities as appropriate.

To work as a Health Care Support worker to support the multidisciplinary team, in the effective and efficient provision of care to aid patients recovery, promote independence, health and wellbeing following sudden illness or deterioration. Provide thorough individualised care plans as set by nurses, paramedics and therapists. Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team observing, recording and reporting any changes in a patients condition or circumstances. Support patients in the community virtual ward, providing care and support when there is a patient need. Be familiar with the steps necessary in an emergency and be able to act accordingly. To provide planned, delegated therapy and nursing interventions for patients in their own homes or other settings as appropriate. To demonstrate independent working without direct supervision. To participate in shared care with other agencies / services as required. Provide accurate feedback on patients care to the Therapy and Clinical teams. Ensure the needs of carers and relatives are listened to and reported back to the Clinician in Charge of the shift. Ensure clear, concise and accurate records are kept and updated in a timely manner, including the use of departmental electronic records. To be aware of health and safety and follow risk assessments to ensure the safety of service users and staff. Apply knowledge/skills gained from education/training so that a high standard of care is maintained at all times. To work across Home 1st Services when there is a need To undertake any administrative duties associated with the service as requested by the team and following appropriate training. This may include adding referrals to SystmOne, completion of computer forms, arranging transport, photocopying, filing, distributing mail, typing, sending appointment letters, taking and/or typing minutes. Support the team logistically e.g. picking up prescriptions and delivering to patient, delivering equipment etc. Clinical duties: Assist with personal care as required, promoting independence and ensuring dignity and respect in care. Carry out observations of vital signs according to competency and under instruction from registered nurse. Observe, record and report to Clinical Staff any change in patients condition or circumstances. Undertake delegated duties according to patients individualised care plan. To carry out pressure area care, eye care, phlebotomy, catheter care, stoma care, personal care and collection of specimens / medicines and equipment as per care plan and in line with agreed competency. Work alongside the therapists and clinicians, who will set goals to facilitate and promote the patients independence. Be familiar with the steps to be taken in medical emergencies and act accordingly. To maintain accurate records of intervention on the patients electronic records on each shift and in line with the CNWL care record standard policy. To use equipment appropriately as described in the patients care plan. To attend in-service training, clinical supervision and team meetings as required.
