Operability Engineer– Human Factors

Our Opportunity
Thales Underwater Systems (UWS) who design, develop and support Sonar Systems applications for anti-submarine warfare and mine hunting, have a fantastic opportunity for an Operability Engineer to join a friendly military based team.
The Operability Expertise team, are responsible for all Human Factors related activities for Submarine, Surface Ships and Airborne Sonar and Command and Control systems including Human Machine Interface (HMI) design, HMI test and evaluation, training design, end-user engagement including workshops and human-in-the-loop experimentation. In addition, the team is responsible for seeking new and innovative methods (including automation and AI) of working across the Combat System designed to improve operability, enhance situational awareness, enhance user experience, optimise workload and ultimately reduce crewing requirements.
Some Responsibilities include:
- Support the design and execution of human-in-the-loop experimentation using a range of methods, tools and techniques (e.g. psychophysiological tools, network analysis, questionnaires)
- System definition activities – requirements definition, HMI design and evaluation
- User centred evaluation activities focused on system usability and workload usability metrics
- Data Analysis and visualisation
- Prototyping new concepts and developments using Consumer off the Shelf (COTS) software and tools
- Support delivery of technical documentation including Human Factors Integration Plans (HFIP), Style Guides, and Operator Transaction Specifications for software development
- Support Training design
- Technology assessments in particular their applicability to maritime domain
- Analysis of system and human performance
About You
