The Opportunity:

The Information and Support Supervisor will work 35 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday, with a pattern of: Sunday 12-7pm, Monday 9am-5pm, Tuesday 12-8pm, Wednesday and Thursday 9am-5pm.

The role involves providing front line support to students, staff, NHS staff and visitors of the University across a range of services including Library, IT, Student Finance and Student Administration. The successful candidate will provide excellent customer service while offering face-to-face and online help and information to users while managing a high volume in-person and online enquiries, working flexibly in order to respond to shifting service need and resolving user queries whenever possible, passing on those which require more specialist help

ITTS brings together all aspects of Information Technology, Technology Enhanced Learning and Technical Services for learning, teaching and research. The role will have responsibility for driving the operational delivery and strategic development and managing significant change in the School’s information, technical and technology learning and research service activities, ensuring alignment with School and University strategic priorities. You’ll need a strong background in data engineering, software design or database design and architecture, as well as extensive experience of developing in a micro-services architecture. You should also have development experience in a programming language, experience of using industry recognised frameworks and development tooling, and a background of implementing programming best practice, especially around scalability, availability and performance.

You’ll also need:

• Proven track record of solving business and technical problems using data in micro-service architecture
• Extensive experience of test-driven development alongside the use of automated test frameworks, mocking and stubbing and unit testing tools
• Knowledge of the key phases of software delivery lifecycle and established software development methodologies
• Experience of working in an environment where products must be delivered to specific timescales
• An understanding of data engineering tools including Hadoop, streamSets, MongoDB, postGresDB, REST and python
• The ability to understand and support, modify and maintain systems and code developed by other engineering teams

• This is a hybrid role, so you'll work from home but spend one day a week in the office

What you'll do

You’ll have an opportunity to make a vital contribution to driving a generative culture of risk awareness by recommending solutions to our business operations risk issues. This includes strengthening the level of ownership and identifying and calling out areas of weakness and sharing best practices.

We’ll look to you to support our business in managing the risks which exist, making sure mechanisms are in place to identify and mitigate risk within a defined risk appetite. That way you can deliver relevant risk activity to build plans to sustain a control environment certification rating within risk appetite.

Day-to-day, you’ll be:

• Working with senior stakeholders to support them in managing their risk and control profiles
• Escalating emerging risks in a timely manner, making sure actions are quickly defined and owned
• Developing a risk awareness across our business, contributing to the prioritisation, design and implementation of the operational risk principles
• Implementing a robust governance framework that engages all relevant stakeholders to enable effective decision-making
• Managing the interface between the business, internal audit, second line of defence and other functions, as well as the wider risk and controls teams
• Making sure that all aspects of risk management are delivered within the policy framework and operational risk requirements

The skills you'll need

As well as a good understanding of our technology risk and controls, you’ll need management skills involving people, process and technology issues, along with a proven understanding and practical application of risk management principles.

You’ll also need knowledge of our businesses and associated products, processes and technologies, preferably including retail banking products, processes and technologies.

On top of this, you’ll bring:

• Excellent senior stakeholder management skills
• Experience of digital and technology risk and control assessments
• The ability to think creatively when resolving problems to identify alternatives where established procedures may not exist
• An understanding of how to design IT controls and automation
