• Determines, establishes, and modifies, as necessary, appropriate ordering intervals, inventory levels, most efficient/effective ordering quantities, sources of supply, etc., based on current financial conditions in pharmacy, seasonal variations in drug usage, changing patterns of medical practice, delivery time requirements, urgency of medical need, alternative sources of availability, etc. Maintains contact with vendors to get status of orders and expedite delivery
• Takes a lead role ln preparation, performance, reporting and analysis of periodic inventories of pharmaceutical and supply items as instructed by management with intent to maintain inventory turn performance that meets or exceeds VISN and National goals and expectations

The Role and Department   

The University's Procurement Service is offering a development opportunity to gain procurement (and general business) knowledge, experience and qualification with the prospect of permanent employment upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

The Trainee Procurement Administrative Assistant will undertake on the job training and a development plan will be created in conjunction with the successful candidate to take into account their individual needs. Following successful completion of the first part of the necessary on the job training and development plan (one year) the post-holder will move to Grade 3.  The Trainee Procurement Administrative Assistant is to embark on the Charted Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) qualification (starting level determined by their experience and qualifications). Upon successful completion of the procurement qualification and all on the job training the post-holder will move to a Grade 4 role.  This plan will be regularly reviewed and form the basis of the assessment to move to the Grade 4 role. The development plan may be extended if the University considers it necessary.

The Procurement Service forms part of the University's Professional Services function and delivers a centralised procurement and purchasing activity to the entire organisation.  The department is currently split between the Purchasing Team, who are responsible for the day-to- day tactical procurement, and the Category Team, who are responsible for strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management. The department is responsible for the procurement of all goods and services for the University and driving value for money, using strategic sourcing strategies within a category management framework.

Professional Services are expected to move into Boldon House (adjacent to the Arnison Centre) commencing Spring 2025, this will be a flagship building devoted to becoming the University's first ever professional service hub.  The building is being designed with flexible hybrid working in mind and will fully support the University's Hybrid Working Policy.  The Procurement Service are ear-marked to be one of the first occupants of this building.

Procurement Category Manager

Are you an experienced procurement professional who is passionate about category management and can deliver the transformation we are implementing?

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Procurement Category Manager to join our Thales UK Procurement function.

What the role has to offer:

• Opportunity to manage our C44 Contract Electronics Manufacture suppliers alongside a current team member.

• Hybrid role that can be based out of any Thales UK site (min. 3 days per week on site with, on average, 2 days per month of supplier travel).

Key responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be involved in:

• Supplier relationship management and continuous improvement of suppliers within the category (with the support of Supplier Performance Management Team if needed) and the management of suppliers performance including, but not limited to, quality, cost, delivery, contractual performance and innovation.

• Accountability for ensuring the most up-to-date knowledge of the supplier market, including new innovations and key emerging technologies relevant to the category.

• End to end performance of the acquisition process via the management of the RFI and/or RFP's.

• Leading major / business critical supplier selection exercises to support business needs, as well as the deployment, implementation and monitoring of agreed category strategies.

• Ensuring that the suppliers provide the competitiveness required to support the business and to introduce optimal supply base changes to support business winning capability.

• Mastering economic models for the category so that increased value can be added to Thales and the supply base.

About you

Ideally, you’ll:

• Have experience defining, updating and implementing procurement strategy from a global category management perspective.

• Have proven experience dealing with and managing suppliers.

• Have experience managing suppliers to target performance and have knowledge of supplier development techniques.

• Possess good contractual knowledge including framework agreements, liability & insurance.

• Have the ability to lead complex negotiations including import / export considerations.

• Possess a good understanding of the market for the category as well as understanding customer’s needs and program issues.

• Have previous procurement related experience gained within the defence sector - desirable
