We are looking for band 2 Medical Laboratory Assistant’s for the Central Specimen Reception Department. These are full time permanent positions (37.5 hours per week).

The department provides a 24/7 service and the successful candidates will be required to participate in the shift system to cover early, late, weekend and bank holiday rosters. Some night duties may also be required.

These roles will be based at the Royal London Hospital, however cross site working will be required and the successful applicant may be required to work at any of our NHS ESEL Pathology Partnership sites.

Main duties of the job – The duties will be varied and we have a team of MLA’s who undertake tasks on a rotational basis.

The post holder is expected to work as part of a team to receive, sort, book distribute specimens within Pathology. Core duties involve receipting of specimens and entering data into the laboratory information systems, basic preparation of specimens where appropriate, and placing them into racks on automated tracks or taking them to laboratory areas for processing.

The Department of Plastic Surgery sits within the ECAT Division as part of Trauma, Orthopaedics and Plastics Directorate. The Department is based in the Royal London but provides a plastic surgery service to the peripheral hospitals and the Homerton Hospital Foundation Trust. These hospitals can become part of the appointee’s job plan as the Trust expands and develops its services. The unit currently consists of seventeen consultants specialising in Lower Limb reconstruction, Skin cancer, Hand surgery, Paediatrics, Breast reconstruction and Burns. Currently trauma clinical services are concentrated at the Royal London Hospital alongside elective plastic surgery.

Plastic Surgery has access to elective beds in the RLH on ward 12C that is shared with Orthopaedics. There are dedicated local and brachial block day surgery operating sessions at the RLH in the ACAD theatres. Emergency cases are admitted from an A&E based triage service, and there is a heavy emergency commitment to cases of trauma brought in by HEMS (1K+ cases per year). Excellent relationships exist with the other specialties concerned with the multi-injured patient, particularly Anaesthesia, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, General Surgery and Diagnostic Imaging.

All research and involvement in audits are welcomed at the department to further our delivery of care.

To ensure the Site supports the quality assurance processes of the Commissioners, including Annual Quality Visits, regulatory visits and visits of concern and any follow up action as required.

Responsible for managing and maintaining a database for all trainers on site and to liaise with appropriate teams for updates and reports as required. Working closely with the DME to ensure the site meets the requirements of the GMC Standard for Recognition and Accreditation of Trainers.

In liaison with the Education Academy Team and DME to provide training activities for faculty development, ensuring that external training provision is made available to faculty.

Meetings and committees

The post holder is responsible for ensuring the effective management of the annual programme of meetings, including timely distribution of papers.

To attend the MEM Senior Team Meetings and ensure regular local team meetings take place in order to disseminate information and pick up questions from the team.

An opportunity has arisen for the right person to join the Dementia and Delirium Team based at Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust.

We are seeking to recruit a Dementia Nurse or Dementia Therapist to support the delivery of the Trust Dementia Strategy, to help improve the care and experience of those living with dementia or delirium and their carers. The role will also support the National Dementia strategy by identifying patients living with dementia and other causes of cognitive impairment and to prompt appropriate referral and follow up after they leave hospital.

We are looking for a nurse or therapist with experience of working with people living with dementia, who is enthusiastic, innovative and forward thinking with a passion for improving the lives of people living with dementia.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out clinical assessments on those identified with a cognitive impairment. The candidate will work closely with the multidisciplinary teams on the wards to ensure person-centred care is being delivered. You will be required to review practice, provide specialist advice, support and make recommendations.

To support the opening of the new Community Diagnostics Centre at Mile End Hospital in mid-2025, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Specialised Cardiac CT Radiographer to work within the Cardiac CT service provision networked from the service at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. We are looking for an exceptional individual to join the Transfer of Care Team at the Royal London Hospital as a Lead Screener and Discharge Navigator. The Transfer of Care Team is a joint health and social care service aimed at facilitating discharges from acute settings, based on the home first principle. The team prevents avoidable delays in patient discharges through coordination and planning in accordance with current government discharge guidelines. You will problem-solve to overcome challenges and work with the ward multidisciplinary teams, senior management and external agencies as well as advocating on behalf of your patients.

You will be able to manage conflicting priorities, be confident in challenging decisions at all levels and have experience of working in a high paced, high pressure environment. You will supervise more junior staff and will yourself be offered senior support and training to help develop you in your role.

We are a 7 day service operating from 08:00 to 20:00 including bank holidays. If successful, please note you will be expected to work some rota’d weekends, bank holidays and late shifts. We are open to flexible working patterns.

1. To lead the discharge assessment and planning of patients with complex discharge needs, from advanced planning prior to discharge to the point of onward transfer, with a proactive case management approach drawing on post holders specialist physiotherapy professional background.
2. To lead on co-ordinating early complex discharges so patients leave hospital within 24 hrs of being declared Medically optimized and ready for discharge in order to minimise discharge delays, improve inpatient flow and reduce the possibility of clinical deconditioning .
3. To proactivley identify and escalate any potential delays in discharge and lead on complex problem solving/case review meetings requiring analysis and interpretation of a number of complex factors and options as required.
4. To lead on screening referrals daily, identifying the appropropriate pathway for discharge for community health and social care services based on assessment, analysis and reasoning through an evidence based approach.
5. To promote safe and effective discharge practice throughout the Trust and act as a resource for expert for teaching, advice and guidance as required.
6. As a senior specialist in this field you will supervise and line manage more junior staff, suporting them through teaching and guidance with their more complex caseload management.
