To actively support the implementation and governance process of electronic solutions under the direction of the Digital Health Teams including Digital Matron and Digital Specialist Nurses. Responsible for the reception of patients and visitors to the Department and all reception duties concerned eg sorting post / filing / stock monitoring / photocopying / delivery checks/scanning/booking transport. Responsible for the timely and accurate management of patient information in theDepartment. Responsible for registering new patients on the Patient Administration. System / Symphony / System One ensuring data is retrieved and recorded accurately as the information is fed to other systems within the hospital. To generate and send out letters to patients inviting them to contact the department to make an outpatient appointment (Partial Booking), taking account of clinic rules, urgent/routine ratios, cancelled clinics and specified return timescales for review patients and if no response a letter is sent to the patients GP and the referral is cancelled from the Patient Administrative System to allow best utilisation of outpatient clinic appointment slots and ensure no wasted capacity if patients do not respond. This post is for a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine. The successful applicant will be based at the University Hospital of North Durham. This post will have a regular commitment to Intensive Care Medicine but will also be able to accommodate additional specialities such as Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine and other allied specialities. . The job of a GP receptionist is very diverse, but can be summarised as: Helping patients in person and on the phone with appointments, queries and prescription requests Using the patients computer record and other systems to communicate and accurately input and extract information Being a central point of contact helping coordinate and integrate good health care delivery by the Team. This includes Doctors and Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Department, Secretaries and Admin, and outside groups such as District Nurses, nursing homes and hospitals. Using some specific systems such as Care Navigation to help patients (training available), dealing with tasks allocated to Reception, registering new patients and collecting basic information from them, and lots more! One of the key elements is being a good colleague and team member, helping each other and the patients. Experience using GP computer software before (including SystmOne) is preferred but not essential. Training would be available for any unfamiliar aspects of the job. Being a GP receptionist can be busy, even challenging sometimes, but it is always rewarding. Being able to multitask is a definite advantage!
