An exciting opportunity has arisen in Theatres at Maidstone Hospital for dynamic, innovative and highly motivated individual to work within our new Kent and Medway Orthopaedic Centre as a Theatre Support Worker!

Over 200 new posts will support the new Centre, which is part of a national scheme to deliver more than 50 new surgical hubs across England. The new Centre will open in spring 2024 and treat patients from across the region, increasing the Trust’s capacity for planned surgical procedures.

The Centre will contain the latest novel open plan laminar flow theatres; open-plan surgical areas where up to three patients are treated in a dedicated space with a specialised air canopy over each station to prevent the spread of infection. The new facility will also include a 14-bed inpatient ward and a 10-bed day case ward, with recovery, x-ray and therapy space, all within a dedicated elective building.

The Centre will expand orthopaedic surgical capacity across Kent and Medway, playing an important part in elective recovery and the reduction of patient waiting times across the region.

The Kent and Medway Orthopaedic Centre will work alongside our existing services to provide care. Our amazing Maidstone Orthopaedic Centre (MOU) and Maidstone Short Stay Unit (MSSU) will all continue.

You will receive structured training to work in this specialist area whilst working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide a consistent and high standard of patient centred care.
• Help to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of staff, patients and visitors, and to protect the patients Privacy & Dignity
• Be aware of legislation and policies governing theatre practice, particularly in terms of universal precautions
• Preparation of theatres for surgery
• Cleaning of theatre and recovery areas before and after operating sessions, also adhering to the weekly cleaning schedule
• Restocking of cupboards and stock containers against agreed stock levels.
• Collect and escort the patient, and assist with transferring of the patient from trolley to table under supervision of trained staff.
• Assist with safe positioning of patient on operating table.
• Act as circulating person for the scrub team and within the scope of the role.
• Assist with the care, labelling and transportation of specimens, and the collection of blood from the Blood Bank as required.
• Keep and maintain appropriate records according to local policy, including use if the trusts IT systems
• Dispose of soiled dressings, fluids and linen in accordance with local policy.

Cancer Services are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Oncology Team. This is a new role to the Directorate and the successful candidate will play an integral role in driving improvements in patient care.

You will play a crucial role in providing support to the Management Team within Oncology. They will be involved with managing teams and leading on projects and work streams within the Directorate. The Mental Health of Learning Disability Service, based in 2 hubs across Kent and Medway, is looking to recruit an Operational Team Lead to assist in the day-to-day running of the service. The post holder will, alongside one other experienced Operational Team Lead, be responsible for ensuring a safe, effective and high-quality service is delivered to patients with a learning disability and mental health needs, including behaviours that challenge, that cannot be met within mainstream mental health services, across Kent and Medway.

You will provide operational management to a group of clinical staff, providing supervision, appraisal and supporting those staff to reach their potential and have a lead role in the recruitment and retention of staff.

You will need to have an understanding of how team performance impacts the provision of a safe and high-quality service and be able to implement and monitor processes to ensure this.

The purpose of the job is to provide operational management, leadership and expertise to a multi-professional specialist MHLD team who often work alone to ensure timely delivery of a safe and effective service to the locality for people aged 18 and over with a Learning Disability who are experiencing significant mental health difficulties.

Duties will include:
• Managing staff in accordance with Trust objectives and standards.
• Monitoring, evaluating and auditing the performance and clinical practice of your team.
• Liaising and working collaboratively with other Directorates to promote and enhance patient experience and recovery.
• Working closely with the local authority, Community Learning Disability Team and other statutory and non-statutory agencies.
• Supporting the MHLD Service Manager to embed the quality strategy defined by the Directorate, ensuring systems are in place to deliver the expectation of high performance and quality patient outcomes. This includes Triangle of care to enhance carer support and delivering assurance of high-performing teams through consistent review of clinical caseloads, BI reports, performance reports and scrutiny of the quality of RIO documentation.
• Being responsible for a small clinical complex caseload. You will attend complex professional meetings and Best Interest meetings.

In the role of Caretaker, you will be responsible for maintaining the estate and communal areas to a high quality cleaning standard and maintaining a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment for residents and members of the public;-

Summary of Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Attend to cleaning tasks in compliance with schedules and frequencies defined for each estate
• Report Emergencies, communal repairs and any incidents of vandalism
• Keep Internal and External areas free of graffiti
• Manage bin areas including disinfect, rotate position for collection, deep clean etc.
• Act as a point of contact for residents and ensure good communication is kept with all teams and departments.
• Identify hazards and complete risk assessments on a daily basis and take remedial action as necessary.
• Grit estate access paths and roads when snow/ice expected.
• To comply with any COSHH regulations which apply to cleaning materials that are used.

The ideal candidate for the role;

• Previous experience of cleaning and caretaking or similar
• Good customer service skills and can remain courteous and polite at all times
• Identify repairs within the blocks and report them
• Hold a Full UK Driving License

Applicants will need to have an understanding of Health and Safety, be customer focused, with strong communication skills. Ideally, you will have knowledge of COSHH Regulations.
