£42,106 - £46,543 / £23.07 - £25.50 per hour (including shift allowance and Distant Islands Allowance)

An opportunity has arisen within the existing Community Learning and Development team for a dynamic individual with a passion for supporting learners and working successfully with partners in communities.

We are looking to recruit a Community Learning Officer to continue the work of the service to promote, develop and deliver local learning and development opportunities in line with identified need and national priorities and to build sustained partnerships between the community, voluntary and public agencies to address community needs.

The successful candidate will work to initiate, plan and lead activities that deliver high quality community learning opportunities. They will assist the Community Learning team in providing learning and development opportunities for learners that will improve educational attainment, address educational and social disadvantage and support adults and young people to make positive changes to their lives and in the lives of their communities. The successful candidate will be required to vary the focus of their work between adults and young people as directed by the service manager, but in the immediate future, will be focused on the Adult Learning and Community Development areas of the service.

The post holder is required to have experience of working with adults and young people in Community Learning and Development settings and have experience and understanding of planning, delivering and evaluating a range of activities, programmes and initiatives.

Candidates should hold a degree, or equivalent level qualification, in Community Learning and Development, Youth Work or Community Work, and hold professional registration as a Member of the CLD Standards Council for Scotland. Where membership is not held, it is required to be achieved within 6 months of appointment.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

The post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.

We would like to recruit a skilled and experienced social worker who is energetic, imaginative, and creative, and can make the best use of local resources within Orkney.
You will undertake a range of statutory tasks including co-ordinating and undertaking single shared assessments, risk assessment and risk management and, where appropriate, Carers’ assessments. There is also significant emphasis on prevention of hospital admission and on safe discharge planning.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and will support multidisciplinary team members, adults and their families and carers, to balance the complex areas of risk and need with choice and rights. You will also be able to provide advice, support, guidance and if necessary, interventions, should an adult be at risk of harm and in need of protection under the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 or, Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.

Strengths based social work is at the heart of our practice and as a team, we have fully implemented the Social Care (Self-directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013 to provide a range of choices to people for how they are provided with support.
The successful candidate will work in a supportive, well established team and have regular supervision sessions.

You should hold a degree or post graduate qualification in Social Work that allows registration with the SSSC.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Travel to our outer isles by boat or plane is part of managing work in our island community.

All registered social workers employed by Orkney Islands Council participate in the emergency out of hours social work rota – this includes evenings, overnights and weekends.

We have opportunities for people who have a passion for working with young children and would like to grow their skills. We have a number of trainee posts in a variety of different nursery settings where you will undertake funded training while you work. There are likely to be both full and part time posts and all posts will be based in mainland settings.

You will be supported to develop your practice in the nursery and will attend Orkney College to undertake your SVQ3 (Children and Young People). As a trainee you will be supported by experienced practitioners in the team and will take on more responsibility as you develop in your role. By the end of the year, you will be ready to apply for qualified practitioner posts.

We are looking for warm and caring people with a real interest in playing with and supporting young children as they grow and develop. You do not have to have had experience in a nursery, but in your application, please do tell us about any experience you have had with children and why you would like to be considered for the post.

This post is open to applicants of any age who currently live in Orkney. If you are aged between 16 and 24 as of 21st August 2023, you will be able to undertake training as a modern apprentice. For older applicants, the costs of the SVQ 3 will be covered by the early years service.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Orkney Health and Care to appoint a Learning and Development Officer to lead and co-ordinate the development of multi-agency public protection learning and development opportunities across Orkney.

The right candidate will have significant experience in a diverse role focused upon staff learning and continuous improvement. You will be a strong communicator with experience of relationship building both internally and with partner organisations. This is a challenging role which requires the co-ordination of multiple areas of work simultaneously, establishing and maintaining processes to ensure identified learning is relevant and embedded as part of the culture of Orkney Health and Care.

We require an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual that continually seeks ways to improve all aspects of our service and actively supports colleagues to implement positive approaches to learning and working practices.

The minimum knowledge required for this role can be evidenced by either:
Holding a qualification in a Health or Social Care subject at SCQF 8/9 i.e. SVQ4, HND, General Degree, Higher Apprenticeship, Technical Apprenticeship OR having a minimum of 5 years previous relevant experience.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
