What skills and experience we're looking for

Main purpose of the role

To work with teachers as part of a professional team to support teaching and learning for SEN pupils. Providing learning support to pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning, such as those with moderate, severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties and/or behavioural, social, communication, sensory or physical disabilities.

Core responsibilities and tasks

Key duties:

1. Work with individuals or small groups of pupils in the classroom under the direct supervision of teaching staff e.g. reading, crafts etc and provide feedback to the teacher

2. Work with pupils on therapy or care programmes, designed and supervised by a therapist/care professional

3. Support pupils to understand instructions support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils

4. Support the teacher in behaviour management and keeping pupils on task

5. Attend to pupils’ personal needs including toileting, hygiene, dressing and eating, as well as help with social, welfare and health matters, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate Physically assist pupils in activities (may involve lifting, where mobility is an issue)

6. Prepare and clear up the learning environment and resources and contribute to maintaining a safe learning environment, including photocopying, filing and the display and presentation of pupils’ work.

Additional Support Needs Assistants at this level may also undertake any or all of the following:

1. Administer medication in accordance with an agreed plan under direction of healthcare practitioner and following appropriate training

2. Update pupil records

3. Support children’s learning through play

4. Assist with break-time supervision including facilitating games and activities

5. Assist with escorting pupils on educational visits

6. Support pupils in using basic ICT

7. Invigilate exams and tests

8. Undertake moving and handling activities as required.

Knowledge, skills and experience

• Working at or towards national occupational standards (NOS) in Supporting Teaching and Learning (core and relevant optional units as required)
• Knowledge and compliance with policies and procedures relevant to child protection and health and safety.

To supervise children during breaks – both lunch and play.
Encourage pupils to interact with each other in an appropriate and acceptable manner.
Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with Academy policies by the use of praise and encouragement.
If necessary, help pupils with toileting and dressing, paying particular attention to hygiene.
To supervise the children’s play involving toys and apparatus and role play under the direction of the teacher.
To assist with language and other activities under the direction of the teacher.
To supervise and support the activities of individual and groups of children under the direction of the teacher.
To undertake playground supervision during the mid-morning and/or afternoon breaks and to deal with unruly behaviour and, where necessary, report difficulties to a member of the teaching staff. Supervise children in the dining area ensuring good standards of behaviour and manners and reporting any incidents of unacceptable behaviour to the Behaviour Team or Year Leader.
Work under the direction of the teacher to prepare and maintain an effective learning environment, by preparing work materials and apparatus and clearing up afterwards.
Set out learning materials as directed by the teacher so that pupils are able to participate safely and effectively in the planned activities.
To liaise regularly with the teacher and/or take part in planning meetings, inset days and any other meetings as required.
Provide consistent and effective support for colleagues in line with the requirements and responsibilities
of your role.
To assist in the recording of lessons and assessment as required by the teacher.
To take part in training activities offered by the Academy and the county to further knowledge.
To take part in such activities, including swimming and outings, as may be required.

Exclusive Education are looking to appoint an SEN Teaching Assistant to work at a SEN school in Fazakerley, Liverpool with pupils who have challenging behaviour in KS3 and KS4. This SEN Teaching Assistant role is for 5 days per week, and is to start asap.

The ideal candidate for the SEN Teaching Assistant role will have previous Teaching Assistant experience, working with pupils with Challenging Behaviour. Previous experience working with pupils with Challenging Behaviour is desirable. An understanding and training in PEC’s, Teach or Team Teach would be desirable.

In order to be considered for this SEN Teaching Assistant role we require you meet the following criteria;

Hold a relevant teaching assistant qualification (e.g. NCFE, CACHE or NVQ Level 1, 2 or 3) (desirable)
Have eligibility to work in the UK or be a UK resident
Have previous experience of working with children in the last 2 years
Excellent knowledge of the full curriculum and assessment frameworks
Previous KS3 and KS4 experience
Experience working with pupils with Special Educational Needs
Two references working with children
Hold a current DBS that is registered with the update service or be willing to apply for a new one

This project is funded by The Humane Research Trust CIO, Stockport, UK. It is two-year, fixed-term post-doctoral research assistant position available in the Chemoinformatics Research Group in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, Liverpool John Moores University.

The project will involve identifying relevant PBK models from the literature, using systematic review. Key information from the models will be curated in order to expand an existing database of physiologically-based kinetic (PBK) models. Methods used to parameterise and evaluate published models will be investigated. The project aims to optimise parameterisation of PBK models using in silico (computational) methods and to assess the predictivity of such models, by comparison to existing data. Best practice in building PBK models, using parameters derived from in silico methods will be identified and used to develop guidance. You will be expected to transfer and disseminate knowledge (internally and externally) and to assist in the management and reporting of the project.

You should have, or expect to obtain soon, a PhD in the field of Physiologically-Based (Pharmaco)Kinetic (PBK/PBPK) Modelling. Experience may have been obtained in developing or applying PBK models in the areas of pharmacology, toxicology (human or environmental), food science, cosmetic science, or another relevant field.
