This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical or Educational Psychologist, Arts, Occupational or Systemic Therapist with a background of working with education settings and/or experience in child and adolescent mental health, to work within a multi-disciplinary Mental Health Support Team (MHST). Lewisham CAMHS are delighted to be advertising 6 new Recruit to Train Trainee posts across 4 modalities, to join our team as part of the NHS England (NHSE) funded Children and Young People (CYP) Psychological Training Programmes (formerly CYP-IAPT).

Recruit to Train is a government-funded initiative aiming to grow the child mental health workforce to meet much needed demand. To help reach this goal, NHSE covers salary and training costs for a 1-year post, allowing services to employ trainees to aid in implementing new or expanding existing specialist pathways to bridge the gaps in CYP mental health support.

This is a unique opportunity to apply your learning from weekly teaching into practical clinical interventions working with clients in the service making a direct impact in the lives of children, young people and their families.

• To provide applied behavioural assessment and intervention for clients who present behaviour that challenges services and poses risks to their well-being, including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.

The teams do this through the early management of identified complex situations. This will include detailed risk assessment and management underpinned by a positive behaviour support model.

Across the service, we provide a range of psychological assessments and interventions for people with learning disabilities and their networks. You will receive supervision from a qualified psychologist, and have opportunities to work jointly with psychologists and colleagues. We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Clinical Support Worker (CSW). The role is a combined clinical and administrative role. A Vacancy at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.


The Schools Outreach Team (SOT) is a small dynamic team (including 2 full time clinicians and dedicated support from the clinical service lead). SOT has a dual remit and offers mental health support, consultation and teaching and training to New Woodlands School, a specialist provision for children with Social Emotional Mental Health Needs as well as providing a CAMHS service to the Lewisham’s Outreach Inclusion Service. The Outreach Inclusion Service offers every Lewisham mainstream Primary and Secondary school access to support for children aged 4-16, and their families, who are experiencing difficulties in participating fully in their educational setting.

SOT is part of a wider schools offer in Lewisham and works closely with Lewisham’s Mental Health Support Team (MHST) and the CAMHS Virtual School Team. The service is an integral part of a whole-system approach to promote wellbeing, support earlier intervention, enable appropriate signposting through consultation, and deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
• To provide mental health support, consultation, teaching and training to New Woodlands School, a specialist provision for children with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). This includes working on site within the school for 2 days a week (with another CAMHS colleague in post) including some outreach intervention work with pupils of the school/pupils’ families.
• To provide outreach CAMHS support and evidence-based interventions to pupils who are at risk of exclusion and/or have been absent from school for an extended period.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical and Client Care
• To provide mental health support, consultation, teaching and training to New Woodlands School, a specialist provision for children with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). This includes working on site within the school for 2 days a week (with another CAMHS colleague in post) including some outreach intervention work with pupils of the school/pupils’ families.
• To provide outreach CAMHS support and evidence-based interventions to pupils who are at risk of exclusion and/or have been absent from school for an extended period.

This will be achieved through providing support to parents to ensure that substance misuse no longer impacts on their ability to care for their child, and to improve their mental health and wellbeing, including by addressing the underlying trauma that may be contributing to their substance misuse.

The Purpose and Activities of DCHS

Our purpose is to provide community health services to a patient population of over one million people in Derbyshire and Derby, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire.

We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people’s own homes and via virtual consultations.

During the pandemic response we have led the implementation of public vaccination centres in collaboration with partners across health and social care.

Patient Care
• Line management of the Children’s Community Services team (5-19) within a defined area in order to assist in the leadership, management and co-ordination of the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme and commissioned service specification.
• Assess and determine the health needs of the school age children and wider population to ensure that the
services delivered meet the needs of that of the population
• Develop an agreed specialist health interest and become the named champion for this practice area. e.g. Public Health initiatives/ interventions and provide advice/information as necessary.
• Identify, plan and facilitate the delivery of appropriate health education/promotion programmes to meet the health needs of the defined population in line with national and local priorities and strategies.
• Facilitate the delivery of services under the direction of the healthy school's environment programme.
• Contribute to the planning and organisation of workplace induction of new staff and support and facilitate the continuous professional and practices development of staff within the children’s services team.
• Establish and develop multi-agency/multi professional working relationships in line with national and local priorities and strategies.
• Responsible for child safeguarding issues in own identified area and support other children’s services staff in relation to child protection issues.
• Support and enhance the learning environment for pre and post registered students and other health learners.
• Responsible for the assessment and teaching of pre-registration students and return to practice students to facilitate learning and understanding of children’s services to meet the needs of the student and educational establishment or Trust.
• Assist in the co-ordination/planning and delivery of immunisation programmes as required, ensuring the staff within the team follow procedures. Develop and maintain appropriate skills to effectively deliver the programme.
• Assist in the monitoring of hours worked for staff within the team via e-rostering to ensure that adequate staffing levels are maintained to ensure a quality service is delivered across the localities.
• Assist in the collation, delivery and presentation of statistical information and data as required to meet the NHS and local children’s services agendas.
• Comply with Trust policies and procedures
• Develop and implement clinical supervision/reflective practice and continuous learning both for skill mix staff and oneself.
• Undertake staff appraisal, taking into account both the needs of the service and the individual practitioner to encourage personal and professional development of staff and self in order to maintain and improve knowledge and skills in accordance with NMC guidelines. To share good practice with colleagues
• Identify, assess and determine client need and where appropriate prescribe from within the nurse prescribing formulary in accordance with evidence practice based, patient medical history and Trust Policies and Procedures
• Promote Clinical Governance Guidelines and be proactive in the development of a culture that is committed to innovation and quality improvement through the use of research and audit to enable services to be continuously improved, to include clinical benchmarking, professional development, competence frameworks and clinical supervision

Strategy and Service Development
• Contribute to the Local Planning and Commissioning partnerships to enable a wider understanding of the health needs within that partnership area. Take a lead in driving specialist health related activity forward across the locality.
• Work as part of the public health workforce to develop and deliver the healthy settings agenda in key target communities.
• Comply with the organisations policies and procedures.
• Attend regular professional meetings and updates to ensure that new ways of working are embedded into practice. Staff will be involved in the implementation of changes and audit of outcomes.

• Provide cover for colleagues as required across Children’s Services. To respond to local and national public health urgent programmes.

Financial Resources/Management
• Contribute to the effective and efficient use of all available health care/education resources including identifying, prioritising and planning work streams effectively.
• Identify potential areas for income generation and access to grant funding to enable the development of further resources and activity to enhance the service
• Monitor stock levels in own service area and request new equipment as appropriate. To contribute to the management and storage of vaccination protocols during Immunisation service delivery.

Information Resources/Information Systems
• Undertake any training deemed necessary to meet the duties of the post. This will include any clinical training that may be required to maintain registration.
• Take an active part in appraising own work against agreed priorities and targets in accordance with the DCHSFT way.

Autonomy/Scope within Role
• Accountable for own professional action and recognise professional boundaries, seeking advice as appropriate.
• Work within departmental guidelines, Trust policy, code of conduct and national guidance/ evidence.
• Work autonomously within the children’s services team to provide advice, guidance and support around specialisms and general health topics.
• Work independently accessing appraisal and one to one support within an Individual Performance Framework at pre determined intervals.
• Ensure that relevant data is kept up to date whilst maintaining confidentially and observing data protection guidelines.
• Follow guidance and policies around use of electronic record keeping and mobile working hardware to protect sensitive data and patient information.
• Be aware of clinical governance guidelines and support/ training available from Governance and Quality lead.
• To follow policies and procedures around safe use of social media within a professional area when dealing with children, young people and their families.
• Carry out any reasonable duties within the overall function of the post commensurate with the grading and levels of responsibilities of the post.
