The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trusts, General Surgical Department are expanding the Colorectal Directorate and are looking to appoint 3 Consultant Colorectal Surgeons with a subspecialty interest to complement the department (early rectal cancer; advanced pelvic malignancy; colorectal cancer; inflammatory bowel disease; pelvic floor surgery).

We are seeking an experienced Receptionist/Administrator to work across various Community Health Centres within Wolverhampton to provide Reception and Administrative support within the Community Ambulatory Care Service.

Promote a clean and safe environment for staff, patients and visitors by ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and protocols including health and safety, healthcare associated infection prevention, clinical governance, including risk management and critical incident reporting and route cause analysis.

Ensure a high standard of basic care and record keeping in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health Professions Council, national legislation and local standards.

Demonstrating safe and effective care including; timely administration of medicines; effective observation of Patients and demonstrate effective communication with the multi-professional team regarding
patient care.

Assess the risks involved in the care of patients and ensure utilisation of practices and protocols to minimise those risks, including safe use of medical devices. To monitor the standards of care and with the

2.1 Co-ordination of the patient journey

Ensure an effective and efficient patient’s journey by planning and co-ordinating the episode of care including the smooth transition to other settings, promoting safe and effective Level 3 transfer and optimising communication with inter-disciplinary and inter-agency teams as required.

Ensure a culture of continuous quality improvement through the use of audit, patient feedback and reflection on practice by self and other members of the team.


2.2 Clinical expertise

Sister Snowdrop and Cannock Chemotherapy Units

The gastroenterology department regularly has MTI fellows and CFs (SCF, ACF) who wish to acquire a general and specialist gastroenterology experience. This opportunity has risen due to our recent fellows advancing in their career as consultants now.

The candidates for SCF post are expected to have GI experience, and preferably a postgraduate GI qualification. This post is at a specialist registrar equivalent level. SCF fellows, new to NHS, will be
accommodated initially at senior IMT (internal medical trainee level) to acclimatise to new health care system. Their responsibilities have been outlined later.

After a period of observation (approximately 3 months), a personalised, specialist job plan will be created for each fellow depending on their level of experience and their areas of particular interest. This plan will seek to balance the needs of the fellow against the requirements of the department but the anticipation is that each fellow will have access to at least one gastroenterology out-patient clinic (increasing to 2-3 clinics with time) and at least one endoscopy session per week (with opportunities
to attend more sessions depending on availability).

SCF will be allocated independent endoscopy lists (with indirect supervision) in due course, depending upon their training and progression. These sessions will be flexible and depending on the ability and progress of each trainee, additional sessions will be negotiated and agreed upon. Their will be expectation to participate in in-patient rota, which includes GI ward cover and seeing GI referrals from other departments/acute medical unit.
