Childrens CDUis a 24 hour unit which links closely with childrens Emergency Department to provide care for children from a range of specialities who need further assessment, observation, continuation of treatment or to await results. The unit also sees GP referrals and ward attenders whichgives varieddynamics tothe busy unit.CDU is friendlyandensures the cohesive team works closely together and provides strong support and opportunities to develop. Melanies Wardcares for the older patients from 12 years through to transition at 18 years. The work is varied and interesting as it covers all specialities seen in Oxford including psycho-social and mental health aspects of care. Patients are admitted both electively and as emergencies and the work is never dull! Melanies Ward team are versatile and supportive with a strong emphasis on team work. Toms Wardis a large, busy surgical unit caring for children requiring both elective and emergency surgical treatment. The Ward specialises in Neonatal surgery, orthopaedic, spinal and general surgery. As with all the Wards, Clinical Educators support the professional development of team members. The Ambulatory careservice sees patients in two Outpatient departments and the Childrens Daycare Ward. Children have day case surgery, investigations or treatment for a wide variety of conditions. The friendly team work efficiently and cohesively to manage the busy throughput of patients. Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) PCC provides tertiary level intensive care and high dependency care to the children of Oxford and the Thames valley region. We care for a case mix of 016-year-olds who require emergency and planned care for a wide range of conditions, including respiratory, neurological, cardiology (medical), cancers, trauma, and surgery. PCC has a childrens outreach service, which supports Childrens care through the whole of the Childrens hospital. The Horton The childrens ward at the Horton General Hospital is a small and friendly paediatric unit which looks after a variety of specialities from medicine to surgery. To provide comprehensive secretarial support for the consultant radiologists to include diary management, leave and administration duties. Ensure consultant leave is communicated to relevant teams and clinical sessions closed. Process on call payments. Main Tasks and Responsibilities Clinical Hold an independent caseload of clients within the Environmental Control (EC) service of SDS Prioritise caseload independently, and arrange appointments according to departmental policies Assess clients via a series of video and/or face-to-face appointments as required Take client history. This will require sensitivity, as our clients have complex disabilities. In many cases, this will include difficulties with communication, which could become a barrier to understanding. Information received may sometimes be distressing, as many of our clients are terminally ill Analyse clients requirements. Use technical knowledge of the product ranges to compare the potential solutions, and identify the most suitable equipment to match the clients needs Set up and assess with most suitable equipment, arranging trials where appropriate Where applicable, identify the most suitable equipment for the client (in some cases it may not be possible to provide equipment, which may be unwelcome news) Prescribe equipment required, in sufficient technical detail to ensure correct provision by 3rd party Environmental Control companies Provide instruction and training to ensure complex equipment is used safely. This may be to client, clients family, and/or clients carers and other associated health and social care professionals Conduct reviews of clients to evaluate trials, or ensure that equipment is safe and being used optimally from both a clinical and technical point of view Concentrate for long periods, as both assessments, and drives to and from client can last several hours Work in varied locations across our region to visit clients. This can involve carrying heavy equipment, working in restricted positions, and being exposed to dust, dirt, or infections materials Write records on the hospital electronic record system to record the care given. This information is for the client, GP, referrer, as well as the wider team for future review Maintain own stock of assessment equipment. Order replacements as required. This includes: Environmental Control (EC) equipment from 3rd party companies including, but not limited to, Possum, Steeper, Smartbox, and PC By Voice Computer Access (CA) software from 3rd party companies, such as Grid 3, Dragon dictation alternative methods for accessing EC and computer hardware and software, including, but not limited to, eye gaze, switch access, alternative mice and headmice, alternative joysticks accessibility features of operating systems including Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS equipment to mount and position EC and CA devices, such as floor stands, wheelchair mounts, and desk stands specialist wheelchair controls, such as head switches, light-touch joysticks, and chin joysticks bespoke electronic equipment manufactured within SDS Have sufficient dexterity, coordination, keyboard skills, and use of specialist tools to be able to operate the above Carry out acceptance and in-service checks on a range of medical devices (including PAT testing) Provide technical support and troubleshooting for clients Work with 3rd party EC companies to keep up-to-date with their product ranges, and understand how their products can be integrated and customised to provide optimal solutions to individual client cases Managerial and other Supervise the work of the Clinical Support Worker Assist with supervision of OT students Take part in audits as required (such as the annual EC audit) Take part in research as required Attend team meetings as required, to ensure that local, team, and national policies are followed. The specialist nurse is responsible, with minimal supervision, for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of care provided for patients with haemophilia and inherited bleeding disorders. This may be face to face, virtual or by telephone and is mainly out-patient based, within OHTC, as well as providing outreach to in-patient care services across all OUH trust sites. Clinical Focus Maintain clinical experience and provide expertise in the areas of Paediatric Critical Care (PCC). Work collaboratively with agencies and multi-professionals regrading the pathways of care for children with long term PCC issues. . Develop dedicated guidance and protocols as relevant to the development of the PCC Network in collaboration with the Governance Groups Work with the other ODNs to ensure that transition of care; for example between childrens and adults services, or between hospitals providing different levels of care; are as seamless as possible. Work with the network team to deliver the Paediatric Critical Care National Review and Service Specification Ensure annual review of regional surge plan is completed reflecting the current challenges to providing PCC capacity. Ensure that the network manager is kept informed of significant clinical issues associated with the delivery of PCC cross region alongside the PCC surge plans To support commissioning quality PCC services through NHSE partnership working Under the direction of the network manager, engage with a range of stakeholders to support national reviews, regional initiatives, cost and value improvements, whilst keeping abreast with new clinical innovations. To be up to date with national developments, initiatives, priorities, and projects within PCC. Disseminate news and information throughout the ODN. Highlighting areas where clinical networking can improve patient care and provide value for money for the NHSE Attendance and engagement with the PCCS representing the PCC ODN Patient Experience and Quality of Care Work with parent/patient representatives and other health personnel to improve patients and family experience throughout their healthcare journey Work with the other ODNs to develop a patient and carer strategy Provide regular monitoring and reporting updates on the implementation of a patient and parental engagement strategy to relevant stakeholders. Provide proactive support to the patient support groups that are established within the network, ensuring appropriate links with national charities and third sector organisations. Adhere to the network clinical governance procedures whilst providing advice and clinical support during investigations into patient complaints where the care is across the ODN footprint.. Lead on the TVW PCC ODN Morbidity and Mortality process ensuring learning is shared in a timely manner and any issues escalated via appropriate channels. Work with the network manager on quality and effectiveness PCC services through benchmarking and auditing the regional services against national standards and producing a plan to implement the required changes Work with all relevant organisations to ensure that the best practice models of care are embedded Participate in national/international events in order to share best practice and update your knowledge of key areas of healthcare developments Contribute to the TVW CYP ODN annual report providing statistics, key performance indicators, service and practice developments in collaboration with network manager and data analyst Leadership Work autonomously across multiple professional, organisational and system boundaries and proactively plan, develop and sustain new partnerships and networks to influence and improve health, outcomes and healthcare delivery system Leads on research projects within the network to benefit PCC pathways. Work collaboratively with the other network nurses nationally to achieve national goals and to share learning Working with the ODN Management Team, the post holder will help to deliver the service specifications and GIRFT recommendations across the Network through collaborative working with L1, L2 and L3 provider organisations and commissioners. Coordinate, lead and manage the projects within the PCC workstream and support other workstreams as appropriate. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in all acute trusts, ICB, and Specialised Commissioning across the region. Provide an over-arching nurse leadership and co-ordination role within the network for the effective delivery of nursing care, ensuring it is responsive and flexible to patient needs for PCC. To work with local trusts to build on the nursing network, providing support, advice, leadership and learning across all bands of the registered and unregistered nursing workforce. Provide support for the resolution and investigation of complaints and serious incident investigations, identify risks to patient safety, and establish mitigations for issues that are of cross site concern and where joint learning could be delivered To be visible and accessible and to provide forward thinking, clinical professional leadership to paediatric critical care staff at all levels across the region. Work in collaboration with national CYP team to review CYP workforce and support the implementation of the workforce development plan.

Take on alternating roles alongside other members of the PD team to: Provide advice, education and support for patients and staff in the renal unit / other departments. Deal with any outpatient telephone queries and assess patients in the unit. Provide nurse consultations in the clinic or at the patients home. Liaise closely with the Home Therapies/ PD nurses in Network units, providing peer support. Promote a culture that supports and enables self-care. Support the development of patient focussed education, including training to self-manage on-going consequences of treatment. 2. Liaise with primary care teams regarding the care of home therapy patients, providing education and information when required. Visit patients in other hospitals as required, ensure patients have access and able to do PD. 3. Contribute to the on call rota 4. Oversee the care and treatment of a caseload of patients working autonomously as their named nurse, (including a number, of pre-dialysis patients) and: Ensure tests / blood tests are done as per protocol. Ensure patients receive optimal dialysis treatment, taking quality of life into account, making necessary changes to patients regime as required. Ensure refresher training is carried out as protocol. Conduct a root cause analysis after every new episode of PD peritonitis. 5. Involvement in the day-to-day administration of the PD/home HD programme by: Following up new patient referrals and planning home visits. Co-ordinating operation dates / training dates. Organising the delivery / collection of supplies and equipment. Ensuring patients clinical waste collections are arranged. Ensuring companies have up to date information on patients regimen. Liaising with companies re: patients holiday deliveries. Recording infection episodes, admission rates, reasons for patients coming off PD etc. for audit purposes / clinical governance on appropriate activity sheet. Monitor in patient activity for therapy costing purposes. Maintaining accurate EPR patient records. 6. Use current research / best evidence to underpin clinical practice. Involvement in any research studies underway in the unit. 7. Ensure that all equipment used by staff or patients is maintained in a safe working condition and that any faults are reported to technical staff. Ensure patients / relatives are taught how to use specific machines in a structured teaching session and their competency is documented and reviewed as appropriate. 8. PGDs Ensure assessment and competency achieved to allow use of PD PGDs, be involved in audit yearly. 9. To manage complaints from relatives/patients, to prevent further escalation whilst promoting support to the manager. Education 1. Supervise, teach and support nursing and non-nursing staff involved in direct patient care. 2. Use a variety of teaching resources and aids to provide a structured patient training programme, which can be adjusted to meet the learning, needs of each individual. 3. Participate in formal teaching sessions on renal unit study days. Provide clinical support on informal basis for ward staff. 4. Mentor undergraduate / post registration renal course students. 5. Act as a role model in expert clinical evidence-based practice. 6. Be responsible for ones own professional development and continuing education in both nephrology and RRT Nursing, and also professional issues in nursing. 7. Contribute to protocols, documentation systems, standards, policies and clinical guidelines for others to use in practice. 8. Take available opportunities to submit written work for conferences or journals. Professional 1. Discuss performance and future development needs using the appraisal framework. 2. Develop personal and professional knowledge through critical self-appraisal, clinical supervision and networking with other health care professionals locally and nationally including project work. 3. Acquire skills and knowledge to properly implement the computer system and any other systems, which may be implemented as resource management tools. 4. Maintain adequate patient documentation to NMC requirements for all patients seen and advice given in any practice setting and contribute to clinical activity/data collection as required. 5. Attend and contribute to Team meetings and any team away days. 6. Ensure statutory and mandatory training updates, as well as role /speciality updates are completed, and necessary records maintained.

This post is for 37.5 hours per week generally Monday Friday working hours but there will be an expectation to work occasional weekend and evening clinics. The post holder will need to be flexible as days of work will be arranged depending on the needs of the service. Previous gynaecological experience would be an advantage; however training will be given to the successful candidate.
