The Advanced Medical Support Assistants (A-MSAs) assigned to VAMC Orlando, to include it's Outpatient and Community Based Outpatient Clinics, are responsible for performing a variety of technical support duties that facilitate the work of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nursing assistants, and other members of the medical facility who provide direct patient care.

Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to;

• Develop and maintain effective and efficient communication with the patient interdisciplinary team, VA Medical Centers, and other agencies.
• Work within the team to set team priorities and deadlines, adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs.
• Assures all visitors and telephone calls are answered and referred in a prompt and courteous manner.
• Performs scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling of patient appointments and consults.
• Maintains and monitors patient appointment schedules for the clinic and communicates delays to the appropriate staff and patients.
• Analyze situations to determine what decisions can be made or if advise of higher authority is needed.
• Resolves complaints of a local administrative nature and refers other complaints to appropriate authorities.
• Update and verifies patient demographic information.
• Provides information regarding clinic and hospital policies, procedures and locations to patient(s), family members, and staff.
• Maintains patient's confidential records
• Scan and enters information into VISTA, CPRS

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Serve as a vital resource for the Inpatient Mental Health Nursing for all administrative duties, supply ordering, project management.
• Manage administrative and clerical needs for Nursing Inpatient Mental Health; initiates problem-solving techniques when problems/conflicts arise prior to presenting the information to Mental Health Nursing Leadership.
• Prepare reports by the collection of data at various increments such as weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually in support of Nursing Leadership.
• Utilize Minimum Data Set (MDS) to pull various clinical-based data sets for required reports.
• Manage administrative and clerical needs for the Baker Act Coordinator.
• Assist the Baker Act Coordinators with reviewing legal documents and tracking.
• Cataloging nursing records throughout their life cycle in the MKR Medical Records Database.
• Assist the Inpatient Mental Health Nurse Manager in bi-annual testing of the Live Process system particularly prior to inclement weather.

These positions are located at the Orlando VA Medical center, 13800 Veterans Way, Orlando, FL 32827.The Acute Care Nursing Assistant (NA) responsibilities include all activities of daily living and general patient care duties to help the healthcare team restore the Veteran to the highest level of independence or remain comfortable toward the end of life. The NA will provide support for diagnostic procedures, nursing treatments, patient charting, and reinforcement of patient education. Nursing Assistant (NA) Acute care is a member of the nursing care team and assist licensed nursing staff in the care of patients/residents receiving outpatient care, home, or community living care, or other patients/residents who are in acute, sub-acute or chronic states of illness. The distinguishing factor is that patient/resident assignments typically involve more complex nursing needs which can vary within a range of predictable to unpredictable requirements. NAs at this level also assume more of a peer education/mentorship role by assisting with the coordination of new NA orientation and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting. They will have the ability to recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance. Completed work may require routine or detailed higher-level review depending on the complexity of the duties.

The duties for the Acute Care Nursing Assistant include but not limited to:

• Plans, organizes, and prioritizes assigned workload.
• Measures and records intake and output.
• Demonstrates ability to properly use equipment, materials, and supplies in simple diagnostic and treatment procedures such as glucometer test for blood glucose level, EKGs, bladder scanning, collection of urine samples, sputum, and stool. Delivers samples to lab and picks up blood products from the blood bank.
• Records basic data and patient responses, reporting significant changes to the RN.
• Assists by positioning and draping as well as emotionally supporting patients/residents during a variety of diagnostic and treatment procedures.
• Reports the condition of wounds and skin and any reaction to or results of treatment.
• Able to observe Veterans' physical or emotional status and refer deviations and/or problems to supervisor in a timely manner.
• Performs a wide variety of duties aimed at increasing the comfort and spirit of the Veteran.
• Assists in orienting patients/residents to the outpatient and/or inpatient hospital environment.
• Transports patients/residents after discharge or to activities as needed.
• Follows established SOPs and checklists in the use, set up, pre-cleaning, storage, reprocessing, and maintenance of all Reusable Medical Devices, as applicable.

The Office of the Medical Examiner, within DDPHE, has an opening for a Forensic Assistant. This position will consist of decedent transportation and logistics while also aiding autopsy support staff with daily morgue operations.

Specifically, as the Forensic Assistant you will:

• Operates a city vehicle, while responding to scene locations whose purpose is to recover and transport decedents, specimens, and or records from hospitals, nursing home, or other death scenes to the medical examiner's office or other facilities within the Denver metropolitan area in field locations that may be difficult environments.

• Maintains vehicles for daily operations including the overall cleanliness of the vehicle while monitoring supplies and equipment. Complete quarterly vehicle inspection requirements.

• Receives and processes decedents into the office of the medical examiner; places decedents on autopsy tables; Prepares decedents for release; And releases decedents subsequent to postmortem examination. Collects and preserves physical and medical evidence. Assist in autopsy procedures.

• Assist in the physical recovery, packaging, lifting, and moving of the cedents bodies including infants, children, and decedents that may be fragmented, burned and/or or in advanced stages of decomposition.

• Provides Courier service for official business including hospital specimens, histology, supplies.

• Collects fingerprints for identification purposes using a variety of techniques including ink prints, digital capture, casting, and chemical processing and in accordance with departments standard operating procedures.

• Performs limited scope diagnostic imaging for identification, documentation of trauma, and evidence location and collection. Selects the length and intensity of radiation exposure, and elevates images for density, contrast, definitions, magnification, and distortion.

• Performs preferences photography with special focus on trauma, identifying markers, and other regions of evidential or forensic value. Collects, inventories, photographs, documents, protects, and prove reserves the integrity of evidence and personal effects via chain of custody.

• Assist with decedent releases to authorized parties. Assist the coroner investigators with physical recovery and lifting of decedents while on scene investigations.

• Performs a variety of case related data entry via case management system.

• Along with all department staff, this position will actively participate on an emergency preparedness and response team to support DDPHE’s responsibilities outlined in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan.  This may require being ‘on-call’ from time to time to help respond to emergencies.  Additional training commensurate with assigned duties will be provided.

This classification performs technical, physically demanding forensic work supporting the Office of Medical Examiner which may be performed outside of normal business hours in a variety of field settings within the Denver metropolitan area. This is both physically and emotionally demanding work that requires employees to occasionally assist in raising or lowering objects up to 150 pounds.

This is a full-time role of 37.5 hours a week working Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm based at our head office in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of management and physician leadership, performs and oversees functions related to the clinical activities including, but not limited to: maintains patient flow by assisting and promoting the delivery of primary and preventative health care, performs technical procedures, lab protocols and clinically oriented activities under physician/provider direction. Job Responsibilities:

• Coordinates work orders with Home Managers and other staff supervisors to determine when planned maintenance will least interfere with operation of residential or center activities.
• Builds, repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, walls, building framework, and trim.
• Paints interior and exterior walls and trim. Installs glass in windows, doors, and partitions.
• Installs items such as window shades, Venetian blinds, curtain rods, wall & ceiling fans and lights and door locks. Replaces damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, and wall coverings.
• Assures compliance to building code.
• Develops and coordinates with Administrator and Manager - Materials and Assets, plans for reconstruction, capital improvement or installation of new equipment, or buildings.
• Seeks bids for construction/renovation projects as appropriate.
• Suggests cost savings equipment when replacement is necessary.
• Estimates cost of parts, and supplies to be used during scheduled maintenance.
• Reviews manufacturer’s service manuals and records of maintenance problems to determine optimum frequency of preventive maintenance.
• All other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• One to three years related experience and/or training preferred.
• Valid drivers license including personal vehicle insurance coverage. 
• Must maintain proficiency in company sponsored training and certifications.
