Duties:

• Performs the full range of supervisory duties for one or more sections of the laboratory, including responsibility for assignment of work; performance evaluations; recommendations for appointment, awards, advancement, and disciplinary actions; and identification of continuing education and training needs.

• Prepares tissues properly when embedding them, according to established procedures and depending on the type of specimens being prepared (e.g. shave biopsies on edge; core biopsies to demonstrate the maximum amount of tissue).
• Stains tissue sections using special stains as required, including, but not limited to Acid Fast, Aldan Blue, Congo Red Fontanna-Masson, Giemsa, Gram, Iron, Melanin, Methenamine Silver, Mucicarnine, PAS-Schiff, and Trichrome.
• Deploys stains to demonstrate particular tissue elements and properties (e.g. Congo Red for amyloid; Fontanna-Masson for melanin), and interprets positive controls used for these procedures.
• Examines slides microscopically and accepts or rejects them on the basis of proper staining reactions. The incumbent troubleshoots major problems with special staining procedures, implement changes, trains and monitors compliance by the histopathology staff.
• Prepares all stains and chemical solutions with a competent, practical knowledge of chemistry. Since many of these reagents and solutions are toxic, caustic or flammable (e.g. Silver Solutions, formaldehyde, acids, alcohols), exercises great care in handling them and uses personal protective equipment including face shields, gloves, and laboratory coats.
• Performs simple immunohistochemical stains; troubleshoots and corrects minor problems with these procedures and maintains records and QA data.
• Assists in the preparation and cutting of Frozen Section specimens for rapid intraoperative consultations.
• Processes, sections, and stains histologic material for research purposes.
• Prepares blocks, wet tissue, and slides for shipment to other institutions as required following regulatory and infection control directives for packaging and labeling specimens.
• Ensures all equipment is in excellent condition, maintains appropriate supplies, monitors quality control data.
• Participates in the orientation and training of new employees in Anatomic Pathology and provides training to other medical center staff.
• Assists the Pathologist or Pathology Resident with autopsy, as needed. The duties include accounting for all required documentation, such as patient information, identity of the body, and scheduling the autopsy.
• Under the direction of the Pathologist or Pathology Resident, performs postmortem eviscerations, places removed specimens in proper preserving solutions or containers and properly labels the specimens.
• Performs restoration procedure of the body and maintains the autopsy area including instruments, equipment and clothing. Will also appropriately discard residual autopsy tissues in accordance with retention guidelines.

Supervisory Control:
The position is under technical directorship of the Chief of P&LMS or assigned pathologist and supervision of the Laboratory Manager. The Laboratory Manager provides administrative guidance and general supervision in terms of the broadly defined missions or functions of P&LMS. The Medicine/Telemetry unit has telemetry monitors for monitoring patients with chest pain or acute myocardial infarction in addition patients with circulatory disorders, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and heart failure are also served. The Medicine/Telemetry unit occasionally cares for patients, who have had surgical interventions but are in the chronic phase of treatment. Registered Nurses partner with LPN's and Nursing Assistants to provide patient and family centered care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, who support patients and families in decision-making.

Broad purpose of the post -

We are looking for someone with passion and drive to join our Bespoke Repatriation service team, enabling patients to thrive and work towards an independent future. This role will support delivery of a 24/7 support service in partnership with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB).

The service will support patients to transition from secure hospital residential settings into a supported community setting. The service will also aid the transition from CAMHS into Community Mental Health Teams.

Eventually, the service will aid the individual to then transition into independence within the community. As a psychologically informed service, delivery will be underpinned by the application of evidenced based practice, with a focus on using the principles of Structured Clinical Management (SCM).

The service will be supported by the Intensive Case Management team at ABUHB to develop support plans which are underpinned by the principles of Structured Clinical Management (SCM). SCM is an evidenced based approach that enables generalist mental health practitioners to work effectively with complex mental health difficulties. It is a goal focused, supportive approach with case management and advocacy support. There is an emphasis on problem solving and effective crisis planning.

• This role will cover Caerphilly, Newport, Abergavenny and Caldicot

The Role

As a GS-13, Safety and Occupational Health Manager your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• Overseeing the Environment of Care accreditation program and ensuring continuous survey readiness, for which the Clinical Center has received high marks from the Joint Commission: the hospital ranks among the best surveyed.
• Establishing and maintaining necessary compliance mechanisms, training, inspections, hospital policy alignment, documentation, and activities, in conjunction with the NIH CC Office of Patient Safety and Clinical Quality.
• Supporting facility specific management and department managers on safety, emergency management issues as well as the
  institution compliance with federal, state, and local standards and The Joint Commission Standards.
• Managing and serving as the Chair of the Hospital Environmental Safety Committee, a subcommittee of the Medical Executive Committed (MEC) and keeps the MEC apprised of projects and performance data in areas including emergency management, fire
  safety and management of medical equipment, safety, security, utilities and hazardous materials and wastes.
• Serving as an advisor and lead of the NIH Life Safety Code Team, responsible for reviewing, planning, monitoring, and documenting compliance with all applicable regulations for fire/life safety.
• Coordinating and collaborating with various NIH and other officials regarding disaster preparedness and disaster response.
• Supporting clinical care and clinical research at the NIH, serving the patients and their caregivers, collaborating with health care providers, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and the standards of accrediting organizations for the Clinical Center and innovating best practices in hospital safety management.

If you are selected at the GS-12 level, you will essentially perform the same duties at the full performance level described above, however, duties will be less complex, and will be performed under closer supervision, with more detailed guidance.
