1. To work as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team under the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre organisation delivering basic ward-based nursing care to Service personnel undergoing rehabilitation.

This post will have a key role in the delivery of the Integrated Community Equipment Loan Service ICELS for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The ICELS plays a critical role in supporting health and social care services across LLR delivering care and support to the people of LLR including hospital discharge, crisis response to avoid hospital admission, end of life and palliative care, support to keep people independent and remain in their own homes. This is a very busy service supporting the wider health and social care economy across LLR. The service deals with in excess of 120,000 pieces of equipment to around 30,000 people each year. The delivery of the ICELS is contracted out to an external provider Medequip.




Working as part of the wider ICELS Team who provide contract performance and quality assurance monitoring of the service provider, day to day operational management of the service, support for health and social care professionals and a clinical team consisting of an Occupational therapist, Physiotherapist, Lead Nurse, Triage Nurses and Technical Instructors who undertake active recall of equipment in the community, triage of orders placed by health and social care professionals.




The ICELS has an office at the Equipment Provider’s base in Glen Parva. The team works both remotely and at the office. The role will work Monday to Friday between 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. 4.30 p.m. on Friday, flexible hours and working arrangements are available. Attendance at the office will be required for meetings, training and other matters that require face to face contacts.

What you’ll need




A Diploma/Degree from College of Occupational Therapy and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council HCPC and responsibility for maintaining registration.

Extensive experience of working in an occupational therapy role in NHS Community Health Services or a Social Services Department. As well as experience of multi-agency or multi-disciplinary work or hospital discharge processes.

Up to date knowledge of and experience of assessing for equipment to meet needs of a range of people to aid their daily lives including specialist disability equipment, both new and recycled back onto shelf for reuse.

We have four Occupational Therapy Teams working with children, adults with learning disabilities, adults with disabilities and older people with a mix of qualified and non-OT qualified staff in each Team. Within this role you’ll be able to blend home/remote working with office-based working at on of our different office bases depending on which Team you are in (Merlyn Vaz Health and Social Care Centre, Beaumont Way Office or Jersey Road Housing Office). As a full-time member of staff, you’ll be expected to work 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to 4:30pm Friday. Part-time hours can be discussed at interview stage.




What you’ll be doing




As an OT you will be visiting people’s homes, listening to what matters to them and making sure they are at the centre of everything you do. You’ll use the highest professional and clinical skills to assess for and arrange equipment and adaptations. You’ll explore safe ways of moving and handling and be able to communicate and develop plans well. You’ll work with social work colleagues, Housing and Health partners, and equipment providers.

You’ll have excellent interpersonal skills, meaning you can work well alongside people in complex situations and circumstances. A unique opportunity has arisen for a qualified occupational therapy to join our Home First Service. The Home First Service is made up of our co-located services from across Adult Social Care and Community Health (Nursing / Therapy Teams). The service enables timely hospital discharges for those needing care and support by avoiding the risk of de-conditioning whilst optimising their independence. The Home First OT will work closely with the Reablement Service which supports the majority of hospital discharges and the Integrated Crisis Response Service which supports hospital avoidance and will ensure our intervention is strengths based and person centred. The OT within this role will work collaboratively within the co-located multi-disciplinary team ensuring people have the opportunity and support to maintain and maximise their independence. A key area of work will also include supporting people with double-handed care needs with a view of assessing their overall level of need before long term care is commissioned.




This role will be based at the Neville Centre on the Leicester General hospital site, with your own designated car parking working mainly core office hours 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to 4:30pm Friday. However, there will be flexibility and autonomy within this role to help manage weekly commitments and help provide support out-of-hours and weekends too.



What you’ll be doing




As an OT within the Home First Service, you will be completing assessments within the person’s home environment, with intervention based around their needs, what is important to them and goals they wish to achieve. You will be required to complete comprehensive moving and handling assessments, assess, and prescribe appropriate equipment and recommend adaptations. You will be expected to work collaboratively with the Community Health Therapy Team, Reablement/ICRS Service, and the Reablement Social Work Team, ensuring effective communication and an integrated and co-ordinated approach at all times.

What you’ll be doing?

Ensuring the safe preparation and supply of veterinary medicines, ensuring that all dispensing errors and near misses are logged in accordance with the company’s procedures and to undertake any activity necessary to rectify/prevent errors and maintaining the controlled drugs register

Implementing and adopting standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure procedures are in place for the avoidance of risk, and working with key teams across the business (customer service, purchasing, operations & clinical department)

Counselling and advising customers on the treatment of minor animal ailments and any adverse side effects of medicines or potential interactions with other medicines/treatments to ensure safe use and general health/animal lifestyle matters
