Core Role as a Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician: To obtain and maintain Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training. to apply principles of GCP in the management of clinical trials and work within the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trial) Regulations 2004 and EU directive relating to Clinical Trials, to communicate with Investigators, Research Nurses, Trust R&D, Sponsors, Clinical Research Associates and Pharmacy staff during the set-up and running of a clinical trial, to ensure clinical trial protocols and SOPs are followed during dispensing of clinical trial investigational medicinal products and other drugs included in the protocol, to order and receive in clinical trial drugs, process receipt paperwork and acknowledge receipt on IVRS (Electronic Medication Supply) systems, to check stock levels and expiry dates of clinical trial drugs and keep balance logs up to date, to assist with the packing down and re-labelling of clinical trial drugs if required, to assist with the preparation for monitoring meetings, audits and inspections, to maintain Clinical Trial files ensuring items can easily be located and are presentable, to process returned clinical trial drugs and ensure the paperwork is kept in order, to participate in the statutory temperature monitoring of clinical trial stocks, to assist with the destruction of clinical trial medication, to assist with the closedown and archiving of clinical trial files, to represent the Clinical Trials Team to update the dispensary staff at meetings, to liaise with Research Nurses to update them on trial progress, stock levels etc, to assist in the collection of data as requested by the Senior Clinical Trial Technician or Clinical Trial Pharmacists, to assist in maintaining financial records, including the generation of invoices, checking payments etc, to assist with general administration such as organising set up meetings etc and be a point of contact within the Clinical Trials Pharmacy Team, to maintain clinical trial filing systems and drug accountability documentation for clinical trials, to use the computer system and other information technology in all areas of Pharmacy. Additionally, you would be involved in supporting Clinical Trial Aseptic Unit: To participate in the day to day running of the CTASU in line with the rota system, to participate in safe systems of work and documentation of these, to undertake safe and accurate preparation of a wide range of aseptic products on a daily basis, including cytotoxics, epidurals, antibiotics, injectables, novel agents and monoclonal antibodies, to maintain personal expertise, skills and necessary knowledge of the technical aspects of aseptic and non-aseptic dispensing, to ensure products are prepared according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), assemble drugs and consumables required for preparation of aseptic products, accurately recording batch numbers and expiry dates, to be responsible for the accurate completion of product worksheets and labels, assigning batch numbers to aseptically prepared products, to accurately and safely label aseptically prepared products, to facilitate the quality assurance of products and to notify the Senior Aseptic Technician of any incidents and procedural deficiencies, to be responsible for ensuring finished products are packed prior to distribution to ensure the prompt and safe delivery, to ensure finished products are transported in the appropriate environment taking into account any physical & legal requirements, to be responsible for unpacking and receipt of deliveries, undertake regular expiry date checking to identify expired or short dated stock, to be responsible for monitoring drug stock and consumable levels and replenishing, to ensure that all equipment within CTASU is in good working order and serviced regularly, to participate in the clean room/isolator cleaning rota, to assist in environmental and physical monitoring of the CTASU, to be involved in the maintenance of departmental records including staff training, environmental monitoring, cleaning, maintenance logs and worksheets, where applicable to be involved in the delivery of drugs to clinical areas.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a new full time (10 PA) consultant to join our existing enthusiastic and experienced team of Orthopaedic oncology surgeons.

The Oxford Sarcoma Service is involved in many innovative initiatives to enhance the provision of surgery for both bone and soft tissue sarcoma whilst continuing to work closely with academic colleagues to build the evidence base for surgical procedures. We are looking for an applicant who is a team player and has relevant experience in both the management of sarcoma, including experience in using multidisciplinary team working and in undertaking complex reconstructive surgery to the hip, pelvis, knee and other site-specific areas as required.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a first-class team in an active and progressive university hospital environment. The service is closely aligned with the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedic, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford, with many opportunities for collaboration.

Main duties and responsibilities

Research and development To actively participate in the departments quality improvement and clinical audit programme through the completion of authorised projects To implement and maintain evidenced-based Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy practice through continuing professional development To ensure good working knowledge and application of national and local clinical standards

Communication To consistently deploy effective communication and engagement skills enabling effective working relationships with all members of the multi-professional team. To effectively communicate with patients and their carers/family members, including the sensitive management of complex or contentious issues. To overcome barriers to effective communication, such as those caused by pathological impairment or language differences, by deploying effective mitigating strategies. To engage and build relationships with external agencies and providers to enhance patient care continuity and outcomes. To be able to motivate and positively influence others through effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Clinical To enact the professional and legal responsibilities for all aspects of the post-holders own clinical practice. To carry out comprehensive assessments following hospital admission, including those with complex presentations, and form treatment and rehabilitation plans in partnership with the patient and their carers/family. To interpret and analyse multiple sources of clinical information to form accurate diagnoses in older adult care; drawing on guidance from senior Occupational Therapists when required. To formulate and deliver comprehensive treatment, rehabilitation and discharge plans, based on clinical skills, evidence-based practice, and patient preferences. To evaluate patient progress against agreed treatment goals and be able to modify plans accordingly. To determine a patients mental capacity to understand and to gain informed consent for treatment. To work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent and are deprived of their liberty. To co-ordinate intervention where there is a need to collaborate across multiple disciplines. To maintain accurate written records using an electronic patient record system and maintain fidelity to professional standards. To determine and mitigate for risk of patient and staff harm using the agreed risk assessment frameworks and the Trusts manual handling policy.
