To provide a high quality Occupational Therapy Service and consultation to people within the Essex Specialist Learning Disability Services. To manage a caseload, using evidence based/client principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in clinic, community settings and when in hospital. To provide specialist Occupational Therapy advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to a clients formulation, diagnosis and case management plan. To plan and implement individual and/or group interventions using selected and graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals. To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention. To ensure that clients are consulted and involved in decision about their care. To maintain clinical records. To develop skills and knowledge. To provide an effective supervision framework for Occupational Therapy staff, and provide regular supervision to allocated OT staff as per Trust policy. To deputise for the Professional Lead Occupational Therapist in Learning Disability services as necessary. To develop Occupational Therapy provision within the service with support from Professional Lead Occupational Therapist. To have responsibility for the planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of occupational therapy and interventions within the Service.

Co-ordinate all co-workers assigned to their service user group and ensure they are fully conversant with all aspects regarding the service users team and the MDT. Identify the individual care needs of service users. Plan, implement and evaluate all care programmes, in conjunction with the community nursing team and the MDT. Provide effective clinical support and line management of nurses, and health care assistants within the service. Provide nursing care in a person-centred way that promotes and facilitates the positive health and well-being of people with learning disabilities. Maintain close liaison with all departments and the staff involved in service users care and report on progress and effectiveness to the MDT. Lead and/or participate in assessments within community and inpatient settings and services and prepare reports on service users, as required. Be aware of all policy document and legal requirements pertinent to the post and ensure that these are adhered to. Demonstrate and serve as an example for all clinical activities to appropriate grades of staff. Be fully conversant and ensure compliance with their relevant professional bodys codes of conduct and practice, relevant legislation and policies and procedures. Under the guidance of the teams Clinical Manager, the appointee is responsible for managing a defined caseload of children with behavioural difficulties associated with their learning disability diagnosis, using evidence-based / client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. The appointee will be expected to act as a full member of the Childrens Learning Disability Service, providing leadership for some junior staff as delegated by the Clinical Manager, and to supervise students on practice placement. The appointee will be asked to contribute to the ongoing development of the service and to participate in the planning, development and evaluation of services within the team. This is delivered through person-centred assessment and treatment, which will subsequently be evaluated for achievement of identified goals. Improve the lives of people with a learning disability by minimising the impact of their condition through the delivery of excellent services to promote recovery and wellbeing. Professionally accountable and responsible for patient care, undertaking a range of clinical/therapeutic interventions in hospital. Support others in the team including associate practitioners, healthcare assistants and students as appropriate, to develop competence by providing leadership, day to day supervision and clinical advice. Advocate for and promote a positive image of people with a learning disability. Ensure statutory requirements of the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act are observed and applied. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Develop effective working relationships with other professionals and nursing staff within the service, service users, carers and any other internal or external stakeholders. Maintain links with various external agencies associated with the support of people who use our services and their care package. COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS Utilise effective and appropriate methods of communicate with service users, carers and other professionals. Chair meetings when required. Implement and promote evidence-based clinical processes and standards of practice within the inpatient unit. Facilitate individual therapeutic sessions to achieve identified health outcomes for service users in accordance with assessed needs.
