MAIN DUTIES o Ability to use a wide range of complex/sensitive equipment within the health and science labs requiring a high standard of technical expertise. o Ability to organise own workload & work with minimum supervision. o Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, including drawings and sketches where appropriate. o Preparation of equipment for practical classwork and demonstrations. When requested, assist staff and students in the use of equipment and help with demonstrations. Allow students access to work areas as requested by course tutors. o Recording and the issuing of equipment to students and staff. o Construction of non-standard equipment and modification of existing equipment on request commensurate with the level of the post/course. o Clean, service, carry out routine maintenance and repairs on equipment, monitor the condition of equipment and bring any faults or defects to the attention of the relevant person o Provide first line maintenance and support for specialist equipment. Identify major repairs to be undertaken by outside agencies in liaison with the Deputy Head/Head/Director o Monitor and keep records of stock levels of equipment and materials, advise on future requirements and participate in annual stock take. Research and conduct orders for equipment and materials liaising with the Deputy Head/Head/ Director o Assist in the loading/unloading of delivery vehicles and safe storage of goods. o Responsible for maintaining satisfactory standards of cleanliness, security and safety within designated area(s) and ensuring that all relevant Health and Safety regulations are complied with. Participate in the preparation of all H&S Assessments within the Service/Area. o Support curriculum delivery team through practical demonstrations and student assessment work. The post holder will work for a multifaceted Estates Department and be an intricate member of the department.
The post holder will adopt a flexible approach to working hours and be responsible for delivering the day-to-day maintenance and servicing tasks for the heating and plumbing systems plus general works to maintain the College Estate.
The successful candidate will possess a good verbal and written English communication, excellent interpersonal skills, and experience working with plumbing and heating systems and general maintenance tasks. You will also have practical knowledge of Health and Safety and experience in working as part of a team that delivers a high level of customer service.
There will be opportunities for you to expand your knowledge and experience by working with our existing team and participate in planned training activities.

We are looking for technician coaches to join the Engineering Industries team. As technician coach, you will be responsible and accountable for the health and safety of workshops, inventory and supporting small groups of learners with practical skills and progress. You will be a proactive specialist with technical knowledge to join the existing team in one of these vocational areas including relevant software (CAD) and manual skillset. You will lead and manage the relevant workshop area and stock, as well as supporting the department with learner progress, experience and practical skills, leading to wider participation and excellent achievement in various vocational courses offered in the department. Knowledge of maintaining mills, lathes and pillar drills would be beneficial. Stock ordering / control of materials, tooling and machine equipment would be an advantage. Also, supporting the production of learner’s work pieces to achieve the highest industry standards.
You will have proven experience of supporting in the industry or workshop environment and coaching or supporting others, ideally within FE, along with a relevant curriculum specialism.
