To assist with the effective delivery of both planned & reactive maintenance to a high standard on all plant, engineering systems, building structures and services within the Hospital and associated buildings.

You will need to provide an excellent level of customer care , communication and flexibility when completing work which supports the Trusts Clinical services and patient care.

To work as a flexible member of the Trust’s Maintenance Team, largely in an unsupervised capacity. To undertake semi-skilled electrical maintenance repairs e.g. replacing lamps, changing ballasts, limited lighting repairs, basic fault finding on nurse call systems, nurse call handset repairs, replacing pull cords, assist with lift entrapment and release

To undertake semi-skilled electrical planned preventative maintenance e.g. fire alarm testing, testing emergency generators

To undertake semi-skilled plumbing maintenance repairs e.g. unblocking of drains, sluices and macerators, rewashering of taps, assist with isolation and capping off of radiators, assist with the installation of replacement radiators, assist with changing thermostatic radiator valves, replacement of toilet seats.

To undertake semi-skilled plumbing planned preventative maintenance e.g. meter readings (gas, electricity and water), changing filters on ventilation plant, descale shower heads, Legionella management tasks

To undertake minor building trade repairs e.g. replacing mastic to sinks and basins, changing codes to digital locks, adjusting window catches, assembling furniture, fitting blinds, changing fire extinguishers and fixing fire extinguisher brackets, erecting notice boards, towel holders and toilet roll holders.

To ensure the Maintenance Department yard and Plant rooms are kept tidy.

Undertake a patient facing and patient supporting role to ensure effective medicines use, through shared decision-making conversations with patients. Carry out medicines optimisation tasks including effective medicine administration (e.g. checking inhaler technique), supporting medication reviews, processing prescription queries and medicines reconciliation. Where required, utilise consultation skills to work in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines effectively. Support, as determined by the GP Lead and Clinical Pharmacist, medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new care home patients and synchronising medicines for patient transfers between care settings, reviewing medication upon discharge / admittance. Provide specialist expertise, where competent, to address both the public health and social care needs of patients, including lifestyle advice, service information and help in tackling local health inequalities by identifying and referring patients to the Care Co-ordination Team. Take a central role in the clinical aspects of complex drugs and shared care protocols and liaising with specialist pharmacists for more complex patients. Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing. Assist in the delivery of medicines optimisation, management incentive schemes and patient safety audits. Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings. This will be achieved through undertaking clinical audits (e.g. use of antibiotics). Supporting quality improvement measures and contributing to the Quality and Outcomes Framework and locally commissioned enhanced services. Supervise practice reception teams in sorting and streaming general prescription requests, so as to allow GPs and Clinical Pharmacists to review the more clinically complex requests. Perform medicines improvement work to maximise safe, cost-effective best practice in prescribing under the supervision of the GP or Clinical Pharmacist. Support the Clinical Pharmacists in Structured Medication Reviews (e.g. organise necessary monitoring tests before SMR). Support medicine reconciliation of patients whose care is transferred back into primary care in a timely and effective manner liaising with patients and other providers to ensure patients receive appropriate medication post discharge. Assist Clinical Pharmacists with any searches, data collection and medicine safety tasks. Implement changes to medication that result from CAS/MHRA alerts, product withdrawal and other local/national guidance. Work collaboratively with the Practice team. Develop relationships and work closely with community, hospital and MMT pharmacy colleagues and the wider health system. Participate in practice meetings, patient participation groups and other local meetings to improve engagement with the role of pharmacy technician.

Job Summary

• Supporting the Senior Management Team in the safe operation and maintenance of all plant, equipment and installations within the hospital estate, establishing efficient and effective compliance review procedures
• Primarily responsible for the electrical services operational equipment, decontamination, mechanical and building infrastructure. Control of contractors including permits to work on specialist and critical systems within the PFI hospitals as defined but not limited to those set out in HTM00 to HTM08 and any associated statutory and mandatory legislation

What you’ll do

• Fully competent (AP/CP Appointed) in the fault diagnosis, maintenance, repair assets to include but not limited to Mechanical systems such as LTHW Heating Systems, CHW Systems, Steam distribution systems, Hot Water Calorifiers, Refrigeration, Air Handling Units / Ventilation Systems, Compressed air and Medical Gas Systems
• Carry out Planned Maintenance of Mechanical Devices in line with current regulations and manufacturers recommendations
• Comparison and utilisation of technical documents as issued by the Department of Health
• Interpretation of technical terminology used in the Mechanical infrastructure
• The safe operation and maintenance of all plant and equipment within PFI Hospital site. Carrying out a range of repairs and new works to a high standard. Working on own initiative when applicable or as part of a team
• Supporting the Engineering Management team to ensure contractual response and rectification times are met. Producing required support documentation reports to meet contractual requirements.
• Undertaking Authorised Person and/or Competent Person responsibilities in relation to specified systems
• Ensuring services comply in accordance with the Project Agreement, legislative, statutory and HTM requirements
• Contributing to the commercial management of the operational element of the contract, including management of the Performing Monitoring systems and to ensure Contract and Commercial Compliance. Monitoring contractual response and rectification times to ensure compliance and avoidance of service failure and penalties
• Act when there are failures in compliance or initiatives and investigate the reasons behind these and address to build and develop performance
• The cost effective delivery of a Planned Preventative Maintenance Service
• The management of a reactive maintenance service during both normal operating hours and outside operating hours of the hospital. The working requirements will involve the need to take part in a roster out of hours call out system
• Provide technical and professional support to all staff, colleagues, engineering supervisors and to Trust officers in order to develop a team approach
• To represent Hard FM in applicable working groups for ensuring compliance with all relevant Health and Safety Legislation and site specific Health, Safety and Welfare policies
• Maintain formal and informal communication with Trust managers related to services activities / working group. Develop good working relationships with clinical and non-clinical staff at all levels
• Use of IT systems to include the CAFM and BMS systems to provide, monitor and report data within the Quality Assurance and other management reporting systems

What you’ll bring

Essential

• Completion of C+G/Btec or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, recognised Mechanical apprenticeship, time served
