This is a hybrid role where you will be expected to work at the Manchester office at least once a week, with Tuesday being the current team day.

Research Manager

The General Medical Council are currently looking for a Research Manager to work in our Data, Research and Insight Hub, the Research Manager will be responsible for developing, managing and ensuring the delivery of key individual research projects as part of the GMC's research programme. Delivered by a small team of research managers, the research programme provides the GMC with crucial intelligence and insight to inform our policy development and decision-making. We do not fund or undertake medical research and you don't need previous medical experience.

Summary of the role

• Although the majority of the research programme is commissioned, a significant minority of projects are undertaken in-house and research managers will be expected to deliver both types of project.
• We are not looking for advanced expertise in particular methods, but rather for sound general knowledge and experience of a range of research methods.
• Research managers will work closely with policy colleagues across the GMC to understand their research needs.

Information and Records Officer (IRO) - SharePoint Migration

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Fixed term contract of 2 years (x 1 vacancy)

The General Medical Council (GMC) works to improve medical education and practice nationwide. The main purpose of this diverse and challenging post will be to provide support to the delivery of a new Electronic document and records management system (EDRMS) on SharePoint. Detailed data analysis, data mapping and administrative support during the GMC's SharePoint EDRMS migration project is essential.

Your role will be to help create a secure and user-friendly service for the whole organisation, by working with staff to understand which information to migrate and how it needs to be structured. Essentially, you will be the bridge between technical development and the people who access and save documents to our EDRMS every day. The role provides the perfect working environment to enhance technical skills, particularly on Microsoft 365 and Information and Records Management best practice.

Supporting our talented team in Manchester, your main responsibilities will be:

• Conducting data analysis, attend SharePoint integration workshops and collate feedback from attendees.
• Contributing to the design and creation of the new SharePoint EDRMS and its launch and integration within the GMC will also be an important element of the position.
• Liaising and developing effective relationships with colleagues will be paramount to ensure the successful running and delivery of the project.
• The IRO will assist with updating and maintaining the guidance and tools to support the organisation in effective and efficient management of its records and information.
• Supporting the records management practices within a SharePoint environment, including retention reporting, access control management and naming conventions. All contributing to the overall vision of delivering and maintaining a sustainable EDRMS System within SharePoint.

To succeed in this role, you must have first-class communication skills, be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and be confident in supporting workshops. It will be essential to enter this role with previous information and records management experience and technical proficiency with SharePoint and all aspects of Microsoft Office 365 will be highly beneficial. As the work will involve handing sensitive and confidential material, the applicant must be discreet and have good working knowledge of Data Protection/GDPR.

37.5 hours a week, between 8:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday. Hybrid working with at least one day in the office a week. However, in certain sprints we have been in the office 3 days, which is the maximum number of days per week we would be office based. Occasional travel to other offices may be required.

Associate Professions Applications (APA) Team

There are a number of permanent and fixed term opportunities available.

As the GMC begins to regulate physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs), this is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a brand-new team - the Associate Professions Applications (APA) Team. The team is being established within the Registration and Revalidation directorate of the GMC to manage registration applications from PAs and AAs.

We are recruiting five Applications Advisers for the APA team. As a Applications Adviser, you will play a key role in the team and will be responsible for managing and processing applications and enquiries from PAs and AAs wanting to join the PA/AA Register, in line with GMC procedures.

Summary of the role and main responsibilities:

• You'll manage a caseload of applications for registration from PAs and AAs wanting to join the PA/AA Register.
• You'll review, process and progress applications and recommendations in line with GMC procedures, information security policies and GDPR requirements.
• You'll respond to enquiries and queries from PAs and AAs during the application process.
• You'll identify potential concerns about PAs and AAs applying for entry on the Register and raise these concerns with your team co-ordinator.

Where will I be based?

Manchester - This role will be based in our Spinningfields central Manchester office, in a great location and close to public transport links. We offer a hybrid approach to working so the apprenticeship will include office and home working. Initially, the role will be office based until initial induction periods are complete.

What study will be involved?

You will have 6 hours a week reserved for study. You will receive weekly virtual training from our apprenticeship provider. You will have a dedicated apprentice coach and work-based manager to help guide you through your apprenticeship journey.

What hours will I work?

You will work a total of 37.5 hours a week. This includes your 6 hours of study time with the training provider. You will work Monday - Friday between the hours of 08:30 - 17:30.

The GMC surveys and data collection team collect and analyse data relating to the medical education pathway. We design and run the annual national training surveys (NTS) to build a comprehensive picture of the experiences of doctors in training and trainers across the UK. We also work with the Medical Schools Council to create and operate the UK Medical Education Database (UKMED) - a platform for providing research data on UK medical students and trainee doctors across their education and future career.

The Research Analyst will play a leading role in the surveys and data collection team developing the GMC's programme of national training surveys and supporting the processes of the UKMED by:

• Applying your knowledge of mixed research methods to gather and analyse evidence for survey design. This will involve organising and assisting with focus groups, pilot surveys and interviews, and using statistical methods to assess survey validity and reliability.
• Supporting the delivery of the NTS, in particular testing our survey and reporting platforms and responding to queries during the survey live period.
• Supporting the UKMED project in cleaning and matching data.
