Position Overview:
This is a temporary position with a competitive hourly rate. The primary responsibility of this role is to carry out a range of daily mandatory and routine duties that facilitate the smooth running of the premises, ensuring all client requirements are met. The General Building Operative reports to the Team Leader.

Responsibilities and Key Tasks:

• Assist with general building tasks such as demolition, excavation, and site preparation.
• Support skilled tradespeople with their duties.
• Ensure the worksite is clean and safe.
• Handle and transport materials and equipment.
• Always follow health and safety regulations.
• Maintain all aspects of the site's computerised management system to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and KPIs.
• Communicate with suppliers via email and telephone, using Microsoft Office tools.
• Control site security and visitor/contractor access.
• Conduct daily site checks and log/action findings.
• Liaise with site management and key stakeholders to ensure efficient task programming.
• Prepare and process site paperwork for attending engineers/operatives.
• Ensure contractors operate within appropriate SHE processes and client HSE standards.
• Respond to reactive events such as fire alarm activations and emergency maintenance callouts.
• Uphold premises health and safety and COSHH compliance.
• Perform general repairs and maintenance duties as required.
• Provide porterage and logistical support services.
• Undertake statutory inspections and general monitoring of services.
• Act as part of the site emergency team (e.g., Fire Marshall, First Aid).
• Report all incidents, occupational illnesses, and emergencies.
• Performing general maintenance to both building and grounds, including cleaning, waste management, and winter gritting.
• Undertake mandatory training courses.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

• Strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and record keeping.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Good understanding of health and safety and COSHH requirements.
• Good customer relationship skills.
• The ability to undertake basic building maintenance, maintenance person, security, or janitorial duties.

Your new role
The role will predominantly be dealing with personal injury claims, with the opportunity to become involved in associated regulatory matters such as health and safety investigations/prosecutions and inquests. Your new role
To plan and manage the day-to-day aspects of the street cleaning operation to ensure compliance with the requirements of the contract and in accordance with schedules and work instructions:

• Plan and manage the teams and schedules for the delivery of the street cleaning works, including scheduled and reactive cleaning using both manual and mechanical methods, litter bin emptying, flytip removal, flyposting and graffiti removal and litter bin installation.
• Ensure that all street cleaning activities are undertaken in line with safe operating procedures, to a high technical standard and in line with Amey's values
• Manage staff in line with Amey processes and procedures
• Ensure that all appropriate safety checks for vehicles, plant and equipment are completed, recorded and actioned
• Keep all necessary paper and electronic records relating to management of staff and the service
• Communicate and liaise with other employees of Amey, subcontractors, community assemblies, elected members, emergency services and the public in a professional and courteous manner
• Attend project and work briefings as required
• Taking responsibility for the safety of yourself and others within your teams to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and safe operation to protect team members and members of the public
• The job holder may be required to undertake other tasks from time to time.

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 6.30am - 2.30pm (37.5 hours per week)
Rate: £12.60 per hour
