We are looking to recruit for the exciting new role of NGS Macmillan Unit Housekeeper.
This post will be based in the state-of-the-art NGS Macmillan Unit based at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and will be a full time permanent role, working predominantly Monday to Friday. Some flexibility is essential, as and when required.

The main duties of this role are to provide direct support to the NGS Macmillan Unit, in order to help them ensure support services satisfy patients’ needs and meet the department requirements. Specifically, by making sure the clinical environment meets the requirements as identified in the Cleaning Charter.
Patient liaison will also be an important role to ensure patients are happy with the environment.
Therefore, the role is to assist in maintaining as safe and clean working environment for patients and staff.
The role is also to support the nutritional needs of patients by supporting the ordering and safe delivery of catering supplies and meals, and to ensure that stocks and supplies are kept at adequate levels within the unit environment.

Key Result Areas
These are the key areas of responsibility that support the purpose of the job:
Domestic & Infection Prevention and Control
- Ensure the entire department environment is kept clean to predetermined levels and in accordance with Trust Policies and Procedures in order to achieve enhanced environmental standards for patients, visitors and staff.
- Identify and action alternative and additional cleaning requirements.
- Monitor cleaning practices and outcomes, implementing remedial actions and producing documented evidence.
- Assist where necessary in undertaking core domestic duties.
- Ensure the adequate provision of domestic and clinical supplies in addition to checking domestic equipment and signage facilities.
- Remove or facilitate removal of any cages and tote boxes from the department in conjunction with the Procurement Department
- Liaise with Sister, Domestics, Portering, Maintenance and Procurement Departments in the execution of all duties as relevant.
- Ensure ward / department equipment is clean and in good working order and reporting any damage to the Macmillan Lead Chemotherapy Nurse.
Food and Drink Provision
To work collaboratively with the unit staff to:
- Order and serve patients meals,
- provide beverages and snacks to patients.
- ensuring compliance to Food Safety Regulations and that the patients nutritional and dietary requirements are met.
- Provide patients with facilities to wash their hands before every meal as minimum
Portering
- Undertake the general transport of equipment, consumables and written information as required.
- Facilitate the storage of condemned items awaiting collection and arrange for the collection of such items.
Maintenance
- Monitor the condition of the building and equipment and report faults, repairs and items for disposal.
- Identify and report items to the appropriate department for return, repair and disposal and mark items detailing action arranged.
Other
- Ensure that the agreed programme for cleaning patient equipment items as per the Cleaning Charter is followed. e.g. Patient beds, tables, fans, drug carts and recliners etc.
- Undertake a systematic/daily cleaning and restocking to the agreed stock levels programme.
- To receive, welcome and guide patients and visitors, liaising will other staff as appropriate.
General responsibilities:
1. Maintain confidentiality at all times relating to staff, patients and the Trust.
2. To actively participate in the Staff Appraisal Process.
3. To be familiar and comply with relevant Operational, Human Resources, Health and Safety policies and procedures, including Fire, COSHH, No Smoking and Alcohol.

training and maintaining up to date knowledge and skills in infection control and prevention as relevant to their post.
