The Post



The post will be for one year in the first instance.



The appointee will primarily work as part of a dynamic and flexible team comprising of a growing team of Acute Physicians in looking after patients in General Medicine whilst providing additional support for the development of services within General Medicine and also providing senior cover in addition to participating in the Registrar on-call rota.



Responsibilities will include demonstrating good leadership and providing supervision for junior staff. There will be involvement in regular teaching programme as well as participating in weekly meetings and monthly audit meetings

The post has generally been regarded as a tremendously helpful ‘stepping stone’ to a training position either within Acute Medicine or another medical speciality as there are plenty of cogent learning and developmental opportunities including the chance to write up and publish case reports, reviews and quality improvement projects. Our past registrars have invariably gone on to become highly confident and successful senior doctors.

The post-holder will take part in at least one general medicine out-patient session per week (this may be ambulatory clinic based in EAU) including new patient referrals from GPs and ward follow-ups. This forms an integral part of the general medicine training along with the emergency (acute) take which is currently a full shift rota

Job Title: Head of Professional Standards

Contract: Permanent (Green Book national terms and conditions)

Working Hours: 37

Salary: £72,391 - £78,930 per annum

Location: Service HQ, Kelvedon Park, Rivenhall, Essex

Closing Date: 12pm, Monday 14 October 2024



We are open to discuss working arrangements as this will be a hybrid-working role, combining regular attendance at our Headquarters with some home working. Travel around the county of Essex to visit our various sites will be required, and there may be some requirement to visit other organisations outside of Essex from time to time.



The Role



We are committed to our vision of making Essex safer together, for our communities. This newly created role, setting up, establishing, and then leading a Professional Standards function, is critical to that mission.



As our new Head of Professional Standards, your initial focus will be designing and establishing the function as a key part of the service. This will involve working closely with colleagues across the organisation and representative bodies, as well as engaging with the National Fire Chiefs Council, and other services and organisations to ensure that ECFRS learns from others and shares its experience.



You will play a leading, visible role, embedding strong, positive values and behaviours through every level of the Service, and in everything we do. The success of this role will be integral to the maintenance of public confidence in Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS), and to us achieving our ambition to become one of the best Fire & Rescue Services in the country.



The role, which will report into the Deputy Chief Fire Officer, will also be responsible for ensuring that appropriate and robust accountability and assurance mechanisms are established in support of this aim, and to facilitate us achieving the highest standards in all that we do. You will report regularly to the Service Leadership Team (SLT) and the Police, Fire, and Crime Commissioner (PFCC).

What you’ll do: 

• Focus on the details and complete a list of scheduled cleaning tasks
• Ensure all areas of an office, including kitchens, toilets, communal areas, are glistening
• Replenishing stock and consumables such as toilet tissue and hand gels
• Be a champion of health and safety practices - spot a near miss? Report it to keep your colleagues safe!

What you bring:

• Previous experience in a similar role, with knowledge of cleaning solutions and their uses is desirable, but not essential- our great training will ensure you are fully trained in all areas of health and safety!
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Can work at a fast pace and adapt to change when needed
• Be a team player and take instruction

Package Description

**6 Months Fixed Term Contract**

• Monday to Friday 06:30-16:00 (30 minute break)
