Are you a qualified Mental Health Nurse/ Occupational Therapist/Social Worker seeking a new opportunity?

Do you have the drive and determination to help develop the new and exciting ARMS (At Risk Mental State ) service?

This is an exciting development for EIP services in Medway, South West Kent and Dartford following recent investment to develop an At Risk Mental State Service (ARMS). This is a service working alongside EIP focussing on delaying or preventing a transition to psychosis and reducing the need for people to access other services within the organisation.

We welcome applications from health professionals who are keen to help shape a newly commissioned service. The At Risk Mental State (ARMS) service works with 14 to 35 year olds with (a view to/the intention of) preventing the development of first episode of psychosis. This job will appeal to someone who is keen to work with a small caseload in an intensive way, with a focus on psychosocial intervention.

The team will comprise of a Clinical Service Manager, Psychologists, CBTp Therapists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and Community Mental Health Practitioners. The team will provide comprehensive assessment and formulation for people aged 14 to 35 years who present who are at ultra-high risk of psychosis.

We have two posts available, one based in Dartford plus HCAS allowance and one in Swanley

Travel is required as part of the role, a full valid, UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.



The ARMS health care professional is a key member of the multidisciplinary team who will be involved in the assessment of young people at ultra-high risk of developing psychosis.

Working alongside psychologists and CBT therapists you will provide interventions for co-existing difficulties.

Essential Qualifications/Skills/Experience
• Qualified and Registered Mental Health Nurse/ Occupational Therapist/Social Worker
• Significant experience working with service users with mental health problems
• Experience and skills in clinical assessment
• Knowledge of a range of interventions appropriate to the needs of service users with At-Risk Mental States

The High-Cost Area (HCA) allowance, also referred to as London Weighting is a payment made to employees who work in London and the surrounding areas.

The General Manager will be accountable for a range of services across the programme, working alongside the Medical Clinical Directors and Heads of Nursing , ensuring high quality, flexible and responsive service delivery and to plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate the clinical and non-clinical services provided. The General Managerwill be responsible for devising robust plans which look to sustain achievement of the constitutional (operational) and financial standards, as well as regularly reviewing these to ensure that plans are effective. The role will also support aspects of clinical governance compliance and assurance related to the care group, ensuring safe and effective use of all resources. Support the Divisional Director of Operations to deliver the annual capacity and business planning process for the care group; this may include delegated responsibility for business cases which have been identified as required to strengthen or develop the service areas you are responsible for. Manage and coordinate the day to day operational flow of wards in conjunction with senior nurses and support services with the aim of ensuring every patient has a green day as part of the SAFER patient flow bundle. Ensure strong financial service performance against plans through identification of problems at an early stage and the initiation of corrective action.

The department treats annually more than 450 newly diagnosed breast cancers.The breast unit is supported by 4 specialist nurses. The unit is supported by 2 consultant clinical oncologists. There is a weekly MDT meeting which is attended by all members of the breast team. There is also a weekly educational meeting and a breast planning meeting which discusses the allocation of outpatients and theatre sessions one and six weeks in advance. The breast surgery unit has a strong team spirit and is working towards a joint waiting list for outpatient referrals and operating list. The breast unit sees more than 6000 new referrals per year. There are 9 one-stop clinics with full radiology cover per week. The Breast unit is actively involved in research and national trials. Medway Maritime Hospital hosts Medway Breast Screening Unit with screening population of 110000 women. 150 screen detected cancers are treated per year. The unit provides comprehensive Breast services treating benign and malignant conditions (screen-detected and symptomatic).The unit provides full range of oncoplastic procedures and breast reconstruction using implant-based or lattismus dorsi flaps on site. Breast reconstruction using microsurgery techniques are carried out by plastic surgeons at Queen Victoria hospital, East Grinstead. The unit works closely with the plastic surgeons at Queen Victoria Hospital. There is a plastic surgeon attended clinic on site once a week. There is a full session for the morbidity and mortality audit meeting held monthly. A department educational meeting is held on Tuesday morning every week.

For the successful applicants there is an opportunity to gain and be signed off for Foundation year two competencies needed for Core Surgical training application. The post holder will be expected to maintain good logbooks / portfolios of evidence documenting their experience and competencies and will have to attend and meet F2 teaching requirements. The duties will consist of the inpatient care and outpatient care of patients and other surgical Consultants' patients when he/she is on shift. He/she will admit and clerk patients to the Medway Maritime Hospital if there is no House Surgeon in post. Admissions at weekends and out of normal working hours will be clerked by the duty House Surgeon or Senior House Officer. He/she will check the House Surgeons admissions and treatments giving advice and arranging treatment or operation after consulting the Registrar or Consultant concerned. He/she will normally seek advice from his/her Registrar or Consultant before referring patients to other specialties. This is a 1 in 12 Full Shift rota. The post holder must be resident at Medway Maritime Hospital when on nights. After 2100 hours during the week and at weekends the Surgical Team on duty will cover for any Urological emergencies with a Urology Middle Grade providing non-resident on-call cover overnight.
