All the acute consultant paediatricians at the Royal Free site works on an annualised rota. The work patterns for this post include duties in Paediatric ED, Neonatal consultant of the week, outpatient clinics. The out of hours cover comprises twilight shifts and 1:8 on call from home for the neonatal unit. Each activity has a PA tariff attached e.g., an outpatient clinic provides 1.25 PAs. Taking study leave, annual leave, Bank Holidays & Trust Statutory days into account, a 10 PA post would be expected to work a 42-week year. i.e., provide 420 PAs. You will need to be in possession of a CCT in Paediatrics (or equivalent) or within 6 months of achieving CCT from the date of interview.

The Anaesthetics Department provides a comprehensive elective and emergency service for a wide range of surgical specialties including, but not limited to, liver and renal transplantation, hepatobiliary cancer, complex vascular including aortic surgery, renal cancer, sarcoma, plastics, endocrine, breast, urology and colorectal surgery. The Royal Free site provides high quality perioperative care over 19 operating theatres, interventional radiology and endoscopy suites, labour ward and pre-operative assessment clinics.

It is an exciting time at the Royal Free with the recent opening of a dedicated Enhanced Postoperative Integrated Care (EPIC) unit to complement the existing Intensive Care Unit facility by providing the highest quality and innovative perioperative care to our unique complex major surgical population.

A senior clinical fellow in General Medicine is required to work at the Royal Free Hospital, London, on the Hampstead site

.This is an ideal opportunity to work in a busy but well supported department with a team of highly motivated consultants and trainees. The successful applicant will gain experience across a wide variety of medical conditions and will have access to the full range of in-house educational opportunities afforded to other trainees.


This post will be well suited to those looking to bridge the gap between core and speciality training in General, acute medicine and geriatric medicine or for trainees who simply wish to gain more experience in both these fields. Our department has a well-developed front door admissions avoidance service as well as integrated services such as care home and community geriatric medicine.


The successful applicant will be able to participate in the department’s teaching, audit and educational activities. In addition, the department will be able to support exposure to other specialist clinics.


The clinical fellow will work as a medical registrar on a shift based rota system consisting of a team of medical registrars supporting acute phase care. They will be responsible for the care of inpatients under Acute Medicine and support the medical take with twilight shifts. They will be responsible for patients with respiratory problems during the evening and weekend on-call shifts. They are also expected to help with the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) clinic.
