JOB PURPOSE: LOROS is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to join the enthusiastic and motivated research team to work on a number of exciting projects in palliative and end of life care focusing on older people, family carers and health inequalities. The primary project for this post will be working on the following 3 year study: Developing effective service models for Adult Palliative and end of life care for People with a Learning disability (DAPPLE). The DAPPLE project will start in November 2024 and is funded by the NIHR HS&DR programme (NIHR150160) and led by the Kingston University (CI Prof Irene Tuffrey-Wijne). The wider project team includes colleagues from the Open University and University of Leicester. There are also a wide range of contributing stakeholders, including policy makers, professional organisations, family carers and self advocacy groups. One of the study work streams involves exploration, comparison and contrasting of palliative and end of life care services for people with learning disabilities at four study sites, one of which is Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, hosted at LOROS Hospice. The postholder will be responsible for engagement, participant recruitment, data collection and data analysis. Participant recruitment and data collection will involve any relevant health or social care services or settings (including family settings) within the area. Data collection involves (1) ethnographic case studies of people with learning disabilities who are approaching the end of life, their families, carers, professionals, and service provision; and (2) retrospective case studies of people with learning disabilities who have died. Data collection methods include participant observation, interviews, document analysis and field notes. The postholder will work closely with the wider research team, in particular the ethnographic researchers at the other three Study Sites, with whom there will be regular meetings for ongoing collective data analysis and peer support. As well as co-researchers with learning disabilities, who are employed by Kingston University as part of the research team. The postholder will receive regular supervision and support. It is anticipated that the fellow will work under the direct supervision of consultant cardiac electrophysiologists in the department with direct supervision of Dr Mokhtar Ibrahim who is responsible for conduction system pacing program in the trust. Working and training with other EP and devices consultants will be accessible. The main scope of this post is to support CSP projects. It is expected that the successful applicant will be exposed to some to EP interventions as well as comprehensive management of patients with arrhythmic conditions in out-patient and in-patient settings. The majority of the week will be spent in research activity. There will be no regular ward commitment. The fellow will be expect to do 1- 2 out-patient clinics per week. The opportunity to join the registrar on-call rota may be available, but is not mandatory. There is ample opportunity to participate in the management of arrhythmia patients at device clinics and whilst this is not the focus of the fellowship, access is available to invasive electrophysiology activities. Work in line with the research protocol, International Conference of Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice and Research Governance guidelines. Support members of the Research Team in the implementation and maintenance of research projects. Assist in the preparation and despatch of samples and documents to professionals within the hospital and external organisations. Obtain samples and undertake sample preparation (blood, urine, tissue and faecal samples); to include centrifuging, pipetting, preparation for storage, liaising with hospital and laboratory staff as appropriate Maintaining logs of stored samples and freezer temperatures To deal with telephone enquiries, ensuring that appropriate personnel are informed so that actions to be taken. Liaise with staff across the hospital for issues that relate to research. Assist staff and visitors with their enquiries. Ensure that all work is undertaken according to hospital policies and regulations which cover clinical trials. To provide support as requested and to undertake any other appropriate duties as required.
