Purpose of the post

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong passion for emerging viral diseases, who is eager to contribute to advancing our understanding of infectious disease threats in this region and to help strengthen preparations for future pandemics. As a Research Fellow (RF), you will play a pivotal role in the project, working closely with the Principal Investigator and the broader study team to ensure the project is completed on time and with high impact.

This research explores the efficacy of integrated nature-based solutions in sediment erosional control and coastal protection. The goal is to develop innovative, physically based models that quantify the protective benefits a vegetation meadow can offer to shorelines.

The Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute (CFI) Singapore at the National University of Singapore is hiring a Research Fellow (RF). The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Associate in the Human Potential Translational Research Programme (HPTRP), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The HPTRP aims to bring together researchers from a wide range of disciplines with an interest to maximise human potential. In HPTRP, focusing only on human studies, we aim to adopt a holistic perspective that considers human potential as an integrative measure of health, productivity, performance, human capital and overall well-being over the lifespan, in our environment. Appointments will be made on two-year contract, with the possibility of further extension.

Purpose of the post

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to coordinate data collection and support research operations under the Growing Up in Singapore Towards healthy Outcomes (GUSTO) birth cohort study. The Research Associate will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigators and study team members to ensure the successful completion of GUSTO projects on time. The RA’s principal role will be to work in general practices such as data collection, data entry and analysis and drafting of publications and reports.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Associate will liaise with the relevant personnel to smooth the process of recruitment and data collection and will be accountable to the Principal Investigator(s).

The Research Associate will be expected to:

1. Conduct surveys and interviews with children, adolescents, and parents at KK Children’s and Women’s Hospital
2. Manage the participant reimbursement schedule
3. Maintain data security and confidentiality according to PDPA
4. Draft ethics approval forms in accordance with IRBs
5. Conduct extensive work with data, including organization, cleaning, coding, and analysis
6. Train and supervise undergraduate research assistants
7. Provide timely updates of the study to PI/Project Manager
8. Work flexibly with participants across a range of settings (e.g., hospital, university research lab), and hours (e.g., some weekends and evenings)
9. Additional research and administrative duties (e.g., preparation of manuscripts for publication, conference presentations, purchases, grant reports)
10. Perform literature review, data analysis and drafting of reports and publications

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, or related disciplines
• Strong background in developmental research and experimental design
• Good statistical background (e.g. Microsoft Office, SPSS, R)
• Experiences working with parents and children preferred
• Excellent written and oral communication skills

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
