Research The College of Medical and Dental Sciences is the largest of the University's five Colleges and, with over 800 researchers and in excess of 66M research funding per year, it represents a major international centre for biomedical research. Our overall research objective is to develop and promote excellence in basic and clinical science with an ultimate goal of delivering improvements in human health. We take pride in a truly translational pipeline, delivering cutting edge clinical trials and patient studies, underpinned by cell and molecular biology research on both model organisms and humans. About the Computer Science Department



The Computer Science department at Trinity School is a vibrant and innovative team, dedicated to advancing the knowledge and skills of our students in digital technologies. We aim to strengthen our existing talented team. We possess a clear curriculum vision for Computer Science and are in search of a dedicated and skilled professional to bring this vision to life in the classroom.



In Key Stages 3, all students engage with Computer Science once a week, fostering early interest and foundational skills in this crucial field. We introduce students early to programming through user-friendly platforms like Scratch and Python, which serve as building blocks for more advanced studies.



At Key Stage 4, students can choose between two pathways: a Computer Science GCSE with OCR as the exam board, or a Vocational ICT course under the WJEC exam board. Each year group at this stage has approximately 5 lessons per fortnight. The early introduction to programming prepares students effectively for the rigors of the GCSE curriculum, providing them with a solid foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of computing and information technologies.



For Key Stage 5, our offerings are currently vocational with a plan to expand into A-level courses in the near future. We offer the Cambridge Technicals Level 3 in ICT, which comprises five units completed over two years with OCR as the exam board. This course is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of ICT, preparing students for further education and diverse career opportunities in the tech industry.

We have an exciting opportunity in our Research, Technology and Innovation (RTI) business. The successful candidate will carry out low to mid Technology readiness level (TRL) research and development activities for potential future products, in embedded software, for both civil and military communications applications.

As an Embedded Systems Research Engineer you will:

Be expected to work within a group of other research staff, as well as being self-motivated to work individually, and be flexible to adapt into new research areas and ways of working. Tasks are expected to include:

Qualifications/Experience:

• The ideal applicant would have several years of experience working with embedded software. However, the roles and responsibilities can be adjusted to fit, and a successful candidate will be supported to develop further.

• The successful candidate will typically have a fundamental technical understanding built on an Honours degree (minimum 2.1), a Master’s degree, or a PhD in a relevant discipline.

• We also expect candidates to be proficient in the use of standard PC-based office tools. We currently use Microsoft tools: Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project & Visio.

Desirable:

• Experience in one or more of the following areas:

Software Defined Radio

Mobile application development

Safety certification (e.g. Avionic or Automotive)

• Knowledge and experience in related areas, such as VHDL, firmware or electronic hardware, would be an advantage.
