The applicant will also receive training in the high-throughput Gyros immunoassay technology. Experience of flow cytometry would bevery valuableto anypotential applicant although there will be opportunity to learn these skills ina state-of-the-artimmunologyinstitution.





The rolewill provide technical support between the clinical site of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust (RFL) and the Fink lab based within the neighbouringInsituteof Immunity and Transplantation(IIT).The role holder will work closely with the immunology and virology research groups within the IIT, and diverse clinical collaborators including liver and renal transplant units, virology,hepatologyand the Ian Charleson Day Centre.

This exciting, innovative, and successful post has been established to develop the career of a clinician who has completed internal medicine/core medical training with an interest in medical education and clinical research within infectious diseases, microbiology, and virology.

Working closely with clinical teams, the post holder’s main duty is to coordinate, participate, and further develop the established UCL Medical School (UCLMS) undergraduate clinical teaching programme in the Department for Infection within the divisions of Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, and Virology (50% time). It is anticipated that the post holder will wish to study for a Certificate in Medical Education and the postholder will be given departmental funding support to do this. The post holder will also be expected to obtain Good Clinical Practice certificate and to recruit and consent patients to ongoing clinical trials within the department under consultant supervision. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the registrar on call rota within infectious diseases and microbiology. The post is based at the Royal Free, Hampstead, London, is full time, and is available for 12 months from 1st August 2024. The first 6 months will be spent as the education and research fellow, and during the second 6 months (from Feb 2025) there may be the opportunity to switch role to clinical fellow in infectious diseases and microbiology to gain experience in these areas.

We are excited to offer this combined research and clinical post with a focus on delivering research within our 50 bed Critical Care Service. Our service provides care for critically unwell patients in in the setting of our large London teaching hospital. Royal Free London is a tertiary referral centre for liver failure, liver transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, vascular surgery, nephrology, renal transplantation, infectious diseases and complex abdominal surgery.

We would welcome candidates from a wide variety of clinical backgrounds including Medicine, Hepatology, Anaesthesia, and Emergency medicine. Airway skills are not specifically required and therefore these posts would be ideal for any candidate wishing to extend their experience in critical care medicine. This post would be well suited to a senior trainee who is taking time out of programme from higher specialist training in order to focus on research and prepare for applications for higher degrees. You will be well supported by our dedicated team of Critical Care Consultants, and we will help you develop mentorship and support from colleagues in our academic partner UCL.

The Royal Free Hospital Critical Care Service is recognised for training at all levels of intensive care medicine. Educational supervision is provided and attendance at ICU teaching programme is expected. The duration of this post will be 12 months.

The Royal Free Hospital has a total complement of 42 Intensive Care beds (mixed level 2 and level 3) an 8 bedded post anaesthesia care unit (PACU). All medical and surgical specialties, with exception of neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery and ECMO are covered. The Renal unit at the Royal Free provides services for the whole of the North Central sector. Tertiary specialist services include liver transplantation, hepatobiliary (HPB), plastic and vascular surgery. With the recent expansion and amalgamation of HPB services at the Royal Free Hospital, we are now one of the largest centres in Europe in terms of these surgical procedures.

The total throughput of patients is in excess of 1600 per year. Senior medical cover is provided by 24 Consultants, who provide a 24 hour service.

Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellow to support clinical research within the Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) and Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) departments at the Royal Free Hospital. This twelve-month clinical research fellow post in PH and CMR is available from March 2024.









The successful applicant will provide day to day support of on-going clinical trials and other studies. Outside of these responsibilities it is expected that the post-holder will develop their own clinical research project. If they do not already hold a higher degree then creating pilot data or fellowship application to register for a PhD would be encouraged. The clinical research project(s) should be within CMR, PH and related conditions and will be under the guidance of senior clinical and academic staff.

The postholder will join a team of trainees and consultants in PH and CMR. Duties will include, under consultant supervision, clinical care of patients attending the PH and CMR services including those participating in the clinical trials and liaising with colleagues to ensure they receive the best standard of clinical care. The postholder will work in the capacity of Registrar.

The R&D Theme Lead Research Nurse is an experienced independent specialist practitioner working in partnership with the R&D theme clinical director to lead the delivery and growth of clinical research within Oncology and across the wider R and D structure. The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical and professional leadership and line management to research staff within the oncology theme.

The post holder’s responsibilities include the day-to-day management of the research delivery teams providing support, education and professional development of junior research staff ensuring that support is provided to the relevant consultants and their teams within the academic department.

The post holder will also be expected to have specialist skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials, the therapies and disease site.

In addition to managerial responsibilities the post holder will occasionally work in clinical practice contributing to the clinical work of the research team as required.
