Nottingham Girls’ Academy is situated in Aspley, Nottingham but attracts pupils from all over Nottingham. The current Year 7 has pupils fromover 43different primary schools.

Around 44% of our pupils are from disadvantaged backgrounds and a high proportion (about 60%) have English as an Additional Language. This is an inner-city school, but we work hard to ensure that is not an excuse for poor progress or low standards. We celebrate our diversity and are proud of who we are.

The school has approximately 900 pupils from Year 7 to Year 13 and is over subscribed. The main building was opened in 2012 and is incredibly well equipped with interactive whiteboards in every classroom and well over 400 laptops and desktops, as well as plentiful subject-specific resources.

The role will provide support to an ongoing new MRC programme grant that aims to exploit a novel molecular toolkit to explore cell type specific adenosine receptor pharmacology and regulation at endogenous levels of expression. The successful candidate will join a team of postdocs supporting this programme and will be specifically involved in the study of adenosine A2A receptor pharmacology and dimerization. The work will involve novel fluorescence based assays and state-of-the-art imaging to unravel the interaction of A2A receptors with other cell surface receptors using 3D cell culture models involving multiple cell types, such as endothelial, fibroblasts and cancers cells (for cancer models).

The role holder will work closely with a postdoctoral medicinal chemist and undertake resonance energy transfer measurements (both BRET and TR-FRET), confocal and super-resolution imaging, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS), CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing and complex molecular and cellular biology.

Candidates should have a PhD (or close to completion) or equivalent in molecular pharmacology or a related subject area, along with previous experience with using bioluminescence resonance energy transfer techniques (BRET) and both fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and photon counting histogram approaches. The candidate should also have previous research experience of the molecular pharmacological characterisation of G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs).

The successful candidate will join a vibrant cell signalling research group within the Centre of Membrane Proteins and Receptors in Nottingham.

This full-time (36.25 Hour), fixed-term post is available for 18 months subject to funding with commencement of post from 2 December 2024. If the start date is delayed this role must end on 31 May 2026. Job share arrangements may be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

What skills and experience we're looking for

The Computer Science and Business Faculty is high-performing and routinely achieves excellent outcomes for students. The faculty is strong, stable with great experience and consists of 4 members of staff; including 2 specialist Computer Science and IT staff. It has a welcoming and supportive ethos. We also have access to an expert Computer Science Director, who provides support, advice and coaching alongside us to develop our expertise.

Our curriculum is rich, wide-ranging and rigorous that encompasses Digital Literacy, Information Technology and Computing with the intention that all students become technologically savvy and responsible e-citizens. Computer Science is delivered one-hour-a-week at KS3, with growing popularity at KS4 and Post-16. At KS4 we currently offer OCR GCSE Computer Science and WJEC Vocational IT.At Post-16 teaching of Computer Science and IT is shared with Outwood Academy Valley.
