The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Fellow position in the characterization of adaptive immunity against emerging highly pathogenic viruses, within the Infectious Diseases Translational Research Programme (ID TRP) at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The ID TRP is a 17-member programme comprising both basic scientists and clinician-scientists, enabling seamless translation of research. Purpose of the post

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong passion for emerging viral diseases, who is eager to contribute to advancing our understanding of infectious disease threats in this region and to help strengthen preparations for future pandemics. Job Requirements:

• PhD in in pharmaceutical sciences and related biomedical disciplines.

• Demonstrated capacity to conceptualise, strategise and execute research plans.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to interpret and explain complex data.

Job Description

A full-time Research Assistant position in the team led by Assistant Professor Chua Wei Ling is available at the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, National University of Singapore. The selected candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator in the research domains of (i) nursing staffing and patient outcomes and (ii) post-sepsis syndrome.

This position provides an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to further experience in research with a view to a Master’s and/or PhD with the Principal Investigator.

Appointment will be made on a 12-month contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension, depending on project commitments and candidate’s career objectives.

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

1. Oversee the administration and general management of the research projects, including support with grant and ethics application and liaise with relevant stakeholders in preparing research agreements.
2. Conduct research fieldwork, including recruiting and managing participants, data collection, data analysis.
3. Assist in preparing reports and meeting materials for stakeholders.
4. Work on other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

1. have a Degree in nursing, health-related, social-science disciplines; preferably with some experiences in research;
2. be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite applications, e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
3. have excellent project management, organisation, coordination, and problem-solving skills;
4. have excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills in English;
5. be a good team player with a strong sense of responsibility;
6. be highly motivated individual with capacity to work independently;
7. Proficiency in Mandarin required as the position will require working with Chinese-speaking participants
8. Experience in planning, managing, and implementing healthcare-related research projects will be an added advantage;

• Responsible for organizing and conducting direct control operations to reduce wildlife damage within a geographical area or technical/subject area of program involvement.
• Inspects and surveys areas and, as necessary, will revise existing WDM programs in close consultation with higher-level management.
• May be required to use chemical immobilization and euthanasia drugs to capture and handle wildlife.
• Assists Wildlife Biologists by correctly identifying current, and forecasting future damage, problems and relating them to the damage-causing species.
• Modifies or adapts established damage control techniques as necessary to meet local conditions and address specific environmental, economic or political considerations.
• Assists in the negotiation of cooperative service agreements with landowners, lessees, or administrators to accomplish the goals outlined for the WS program.
• Assists in conducting demonstrations and training for others, including other cooperators or other interested groups, on WDM methods, procedures, and program objectives.
