PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The salary for this position is $112,490 - $175,760/year

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Deputy Director of Recreation Services and Golf assists in providing vision and leadership to support a successful and high-performing recreation and golf organization. This role is responsible for planning, supervising, and administering the activities of the City of Aurora recreation facilities and programs, and golf courses. The Recreation organization includes 5 recreation centers, 6 outdoor pools, 1 center for older adults, 2 community centers, and recreation programs including preschools, aquatics, sports, special events, adaptive recreation services, services for older adults, and City-wide special events. The golf organization includes 5 club courses and related operations facilities: including pro shops, restaurants, and golf maintenance facilities. Reporting to the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Open Space, the Deputy Director supervises 3 direct reports including two Recreation Managers and the Manager of Golf, and approximately 140 Full-time employees and 500 plus seasonal employees.
The new Deputy Director will have the opportunity to focus on several initiatives including developing an effective working relationship with City Council, working to enhance the financial stability of the organization including finding ways to monetize programs, and engaging with the department and staff to evaluate and improve facilities, programs, and services both internally and for the citizens of Aurora.
The Deputy Director also supports the Department Director including acting as Director in their absence, representing the Director at meetings, serving as a policy advisor to the Department Director, and representing the department at citizen led Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Aurora Youth Commission, Aurora Commission for Older Adults, and Golf Advisory Committee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
- Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, or closely related field.
- At least eight (8) years of demonstrated leadership and management experience in municipal recreation with a highly engaged community.
- Business experience in a recreation setting that included supervision of large teams (in excess of 100 FTE), strategic planning, performance-based management objectives, recreation program and partnership development, and sustainability efforts involving economic, social, and environment policy development and implementation.
