The Gastrointestinal Medicine and Surgery research team delivers studies across the multidisciplinary gastrointestinal department. The team is made up of Principal Investigators and Sub-investigators, Research Nurses and Clinical Research Practitioners who work together to deliver studies to high standards across both Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital sites.

Clinical and Communication Responsibilities
• Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients and participants come first.
• Work within relevant regulations and ICH GCP (International Conference on Harmonisation and Good Clinical Practice) ensuring that the clinical trial protocol is adhered to at all times.
• Lead on a portfolio of trials and coordinate participation. • Report any adverse events or health concerns which occur whilst the participant is taking part in the study to the appropriate doctor or nurse in a timely manner, and to the appropriate principal or co-investigator.
• Liaise with pharmacy to co-ordinate the availability and dispensing of study drugs if appropriate.
• Perform tasks requiring clinical and laboratory skills, including phlebotomy, venepuncture, tissue and blood sample preparation within clinic and laboratory in line with personal competencies and approved study protocol

• Provide ongoing support to the participant and carer whilst participating in the clinical study.

We are one of the largest cardiac MRI scanning centres in the UK. Our Imaging Clinical Research Facility is based in our St Thomas Hospital campus with strong research collaboration focusing on the development of novel acquisition, reconstruction and motion correction using different field strength MRI scanners. The Royal Brompton cystic fibrosis (CF) clinical trials department comprises of clinicians, academics, allied health professionals and admin/ finance members. The Brompton adult & paediatric CF centres are made up of world leading teams carrying out global, multicentre interventional and observational studies, in both adults and children, being led by Profs Davies, Simmonds and colleagues. The Brompton is the lead site for an early-phase, multicentre trial of CFTR gene therapy led globally by Prof Eric Alton; this post has been created primarily to support this trial, whilst also working alongside the team across the CF trials portfolio.

You will be responsible for all matters relating to data collection/management, involving direct patient interactions and provision of administrative support for trial-related activities for the gene therapy study. This role requires the post holder to be able to handle a varied/extensive workload. Training will be provided in all aspects of the role.

This position will offer the post holder an opportunity to work closely with experienced clinical and research colleagues across a diverse portfolio of trials covering over 20 different clinical specialties including but not limited to HIV, Sickle cell disease, Diabetes, Dermatology, Nephrology and Oncology.

You will be working within a highly regulated environment of clinical research. With our MHRA Phase I accreditation of our Guy’s Unit you will contribute to team-wide improvement projects designed to ensure we maintain our accreditation status. Accordingly, you will also gain experience in quality improvement, quality assurance, monitoring, audit and inspection.

To meet the needs of the service you will be required to work at two of our Units – the Guy’s Phase I Unit and the St. Thomas’ Adults Unit.

The post holder is expected to work on shift patterns necessary to ensure patient safety and timely delivery of clinical trials.Work patterns will include day shifts, regular late and night duties, and weekends as required.Your work patterns will be agreed with your Line Manager and align with the weekly duty roster of both Units.

The post-holder will be allocated to support/lead a selection of trials and studies. The successful candidate will undertake clinical, laboratory and study management duties while ensuring patient safety and complying to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Guidelines.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Development Officer to the Research Office of the Heart, Lung and Critical Care (HLCC) Clinical Group of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The Department of Twins Research team is seeking a highly motivated person to join their group as a Assistant Clinical Research Practitioner with experience and knowledge of working in an NHS/University research environment, along with experience of working with participants involved in multiple, large, complex studies.

TwinsUK is the UK’s largest adult twin registry and the most clinically detailed in the world.Professor Tim Spector from King’s College London set up the cohort in 1992 to investigate the incidence of osteoporosis and other rheumatologic diseases in several hundred monozygotic (identical) twins. This unique post offers an exciting opportunity to work as the Laboratory Coordinator in the NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

The CRF Laboratory provides a comprehensive and high quality service including sample reception, preparation, processing, storage and shipment for samples collected as part of a complete portfolio of clinical trials implemented at the CRF ranging from First in Human (FIH) through to innovative phase 3 trials, and experimental non-IMP studies across a combined adult and paediatric service

The post holder will have knowledge of a range of pre-analytical processing procedures and will be responsible for overseeing the processing and storage of clinical trial samples to the highest standard. This includes:
• receiving, sorting, labelling and processing samples;
• resolving issues such as mislabelled or missing specimens;

An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated life science graduates with a particular interest in reproductive science and fertility services. Guy's Assisted Conception Unit (ACU) Embryology requires high calibre, focused individuals to join the team and support the clinical service it provides. You will undertake a range of administrative, support and hands on laboratory activities that are critical in delivering a high quality service and helping our patients achieve their dreams of a family.

The successful candidate will work closely with the embryologists and wider ACU team to undertake a range of activities that support Guy's ACU and enable us to provide assisted conception, diagnostic, PGT and fertility preservation services; including the ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) programme. We operate a seven day service caring for patients who are undergoing funded treatment and attract both national and international self referrals.



The post holder will liaise closely with senior Embryology staff to perform appropriate procedures, provide administrative and technical support to the embryology, andrology and OTC / HTA laboratories within the ACU; to enable the smooth and efficient provision of the clinical services. There is an expectation to participate in the research activities including data collection (via clinical activity), data input and maintenance of research databases. The post holder must prioritise clinical and diagnostic duties effectively and be capable of working with and under the supervision of the clinical embryologists.

Guy's ACU provides assisted conception, diagnostic, PGT and fertility preservation services.
We operate a seven day service caring for patients who are undergoing funded treatment and attract both national and international self-referrals. Each year we deliver over 1800IVF/ICSI cycles including 500 PGD cases and an additional 1700 FET cycles.
