The successful candidate will likely have the following skills and experience:

• Educated to degree level or equivalent is required;
• Working towards, or have achieved, CIMA, ACCA, or any other industry recognised financial designation;

• Modern IT skills highly beneficial (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Power BI, Word, Outlook) – willingness to learn these if not already adept;
• High level of task organisation;
• Financial work experience not a prerequisite (assuming evidence of strong academic performance);
• Previous use of cloud storage technology would be advantageous but not essential;
• Understanding of sustainability issues also advantageous but not essential;
• Flexibility is key in this role in order to ensure that all deadlines are met.

Job Purpose Summary

A vacancy has arisen for a Planning and Performance Officer (Risk) in the Planning and Performance Team.

The role of the team is to develop and implement business planning processes within NatureScot and develop plans and reports for publication. The team plays a key role in supporting the Senior Leadership Team with risk management, performance measurement and, working with finance colleagues, the capture and analysis of key financial metrics.

Over the next couple of years, the team will co-ordinate the development of a new corporate plan and work on further embedding the new 90 days business planning process which is a key part of NatureScot’s organisational development strategy.

Reporting to the Planning and Performance Manager (PPM), the postholder will have an exciting role to play in supporting the PPM in building on the work in hand to capture business planning processes as is – alongside a desired future state – to inform the development of a new business planning tool. The post holder will have specific responsibility for developing the approach to risk management and analysis through the system. Whilst specific digital development knowledge is not required a general appreciation of, and interest in, digital development and a keen interest in new and emerging technologies such as cloud computing and AI will be an advantage.

• Has obtained, or willing to obtain, a recognised risk management qualification equivalent to SCQF Level 6 or above.
• Knowledge on NatureScot’s business planning systems and a strong understanding of the wider aims of the organisation and its operating environment
• Highly skilled in MS office software particularly Excel.
• Knowledge of the principles and practice of project and programme management with the ability to lead workstreams/sprints in new projects and programmes of change.

Role Description

This key, lifestyle-changing role will require an experienced, highly motivated, strategic, and creative thinker, with excellent communication skills, energy and the ability to inspire and engage. Applicants should be highly organised, with visionary business planning skills and a proven history in successfully developing and delivering an Operational Readiness Plan for a new visitor attraction and/or community heritage business. This is a unique opportunity to bring your experience and skills to an exciting new heritage project from the outset. You will plan and prepare for, implement, and ensure the successful delivery of a sustainable business operation under the brand ‘Brora Heritage’, operating from a newly redeveloped Old Clyne School (see Appendix 1). If mutually agreeable, the job will then change to manage the operational phase, with the Board’s desire for the post to become a permanent staff position beyond the initial two years, in principle.

Working closely with the project’s design team and architect, you will plan in detail for the fit out of the completed building and be responsible for procurement of all items necessary to be fully operational from when the doors are open to the public. You will also plan for ensuring that all operational policies and procedures are in place and be responsible for recruitment of operational staff.

You will be expected to work strategically with other organisations to develop partnerships and play a lead role within the operational team.
