Since 01/11/2021 a Recruitment & Retention premia has been introduced to attract and retain staff working within the Secure Care Division in High, Medium and Low Secure Services and further support our “Grow Our Own Strategy”. For unqualified roles this will be a premia of £600 - £4034* dependant on allocations.

*Allocations will be determined by the service, R&R will reflect the premia associated with each specific clinical placement for the duration of that rotation.

The Healthcare Apprentice position in the Secure Care Division is an exciting learning opportunity for the apprentice to gain valuable experience working in a specialist service whilst also undertaking an Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework at level 2. The apprenticeship will be undertaken over 12 months and will include exposure to both clinical and educational experiences.

Within this role individuals will be required to carry out assigned duties, involving direct care and observation of Service Users under the guidance and supervision of a qualified nurse or other team member where delegated.

Successful candidates will be required to participate in the shift system in operation within the ward/team/department.

Successful applicants must attend the education sessions provided to support the attainment of Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework at level 2.

Following satisfactory engagement with the course requirements, a band 3 Nursing Assistant post may be offered upon completion.

Newton Ward currently supports all wards across the Sefton, Liverpool and Kirkby footprint and of recent now provides psychiatric intensive care services to the whole of the Mental Health Division.

Newton Ward is 12 bedded mixed ward based at Clock View Hospital that provides short-term intensive assessment, treatment, and support to service users, who are experiencing a mental health crisis, and often present with a variety of complex mental health needs.

Under the direct or indirect Clinical Supervision of a Qualified Occupational Therapist you will undertake the following duties:

Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust is the health provider for the delivery of an Integrated Mental Health Team (IMHT) within HMP Liverpool and HMP Altcourse. The service is designed to support the holistic mental health needs of our client group in partnership with other Health providers and HMPPS colleagues.

HMP Liverpool and HMP Altcourse are both Category B, male only, local prisons, in the Liverpool area.

The services provide individual, and soon will provide group-based interventions, based on the needs of the population. The service is developing and will adopt the biopsychological model to inform practice and tailor interventions accordingly. These interventions will be individualised, and trauma informed, alongside comprehensive risk assessment and management.

Core aims of the service are to improve mental and psychological wellbeing via a range of interventions, build the development of independent core skills, reduce risk, and advocate for mental health within the wider prison.

The post holder will be joining a dedicated team of clinical and from a range of backgrounds and experience. Team members have high levels of skill, passion and enthusiasm (and humour!) and are committed to ensuring the on-going successful development of the service and the opportunities it provides for our population.

We are now recruiting a full-time Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to work across both sites at HMP Altcourse and HMP Liverpool. The service at HMP Liverpool has had SaLT provision for the last two years, this work has proven to be hugely effective with the client group and has become a very valued and respected profession within the team. The successful post-holder will work alongside a part-time Highly Specialist SaLT at HMP Liverpool.

Our Knowsley intermediate care bed-based team is seeking a committed Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our service, supporting the patients through shared care within their localities. The Trust is seeking to recruit a full-time Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist based at Rathbone Low Secure Unit in Liverpool. The service has32 male beds across two wards and provides assessment and management for patients from North and South Liverpool, South Sefton (up to Southport) and part of Kirkby. The population covered is approximately 1/3 million. The service provides low secure forensic care for detained patients with a mental disorder who present a significant risk of harm to others and cannot be managed in a non-secure environment. The service forms part of the secure services pathway within Mersey Care.

The vacancy is an established permanent post which has arisen due to retirement. The post holder will join a comprehensive MDT with good trainee medical support including a full-time substantive staff grade doctor and core trainee. There is also a full-time substantive Physician Associate. They will manage a caseload of 16 male inpatients and will maintain responsibility for the patient throughout his journey through the unit. There is a second substantive consultant who has responsibility for the other inpatients.

The post currently attracts a 10% R&R payment which will be reviewed in 2025.

The post holder will act as Responsible Clinician within a multidisciplinary team. They will lead on the management of a caseload of 16 male inpatients. This will include preadmission planning, MDT meetings, CPA reviews and discharge planning. The post will require liaison with other agencies, including the Ministry of Justice, police, probation, social care and other mental health services. They will exercise statutory responsibilities for patients detained under Restriction Orders, including completing statutory reports to the Ministry of Justice. For both non-restricted and restricted patients under their care they will be responsible for providing reports regarding Consent to Treatment and providing reports to, and attending, Tribunals and Managers’ Reviews.



The post holder will lead on the assessment of individuals referred for admission from a variety of sources including other secure services, general adult services, courts or prisons. . These are discussed at the weekly referral meeting. The postholder will participate in the panel meetings which are also held weekly and review referrals for admission to low secure and forensic step-down beds across the Merseyside and Cheshire region.

The post will require liaison with other agencies, including the Ministry of Justice, police, probation, social care, and other mental health services.

The post holder will be lead on the assessment of individuals referred for admission from a variety of sources including other secure services, general adult services, courts, or prisons. The service on average receives 2-3 referrals for assessment for admission a month.

The post holder will exercise statutory responsibilities as a Responsible Clinician within the meaning of the Mental Health Act 1983 (Amended 2007) for patients detained under Restriction Orders, including completing statutory reports to the Ministry of Justice. For both non-restricted and restricted patients under his/her care he/she will be responsible for providing reports regarding Consent to Treatment and providing reports to, and attending, Tribunals and Managers’ Reviews. The postholder will be expected to be approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 for the purposes of recommending admission to hospital and be an Approved Clinician.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the management of the service and attend clinical team meetings and other service-related meetings as appropriate.
