This twelve month post will provide an opportunity to gain sub-specialty experience and training at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. The Sheffield Ophthalmology Department is a progressive and forward-thinking department. It is exceptionally well equipped, including state-of-the-art ophthalmic imaging facilities. This fellowship provides extensive clinical and surgical experience in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of ocular oncology conditions including intraocular, ocular surface and adnexal tumours as well as experience in adnexal (lid, lacrimal and orbital) surgery. Prior oculoplastic experience would be an advantage. Informal visits are encouraged and should be arranged through Mr Sachin Salvi or Ms Jennifer Tan by contacting their secretary on 0114 271 3829. The fellow will provide intermediate grade support to the Consultant Ophthalmologists to their level of experience. There are opportunities to get involved with research and appointees will be actively encouraged to play a full part in the clinical, teaching and governance activities of the directorate. The successful candidates must be registered with the GMC with a licence to practise in line with the introduction of revalidation on 16 November 2009.

To hold responsibility for own caseload and a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision. To provide specialist speech, language and swallowing assessments and neurorehabilitation as required. Contribute to the planning, development and delivery of an effective and efficient service. Provide specialist assessment of communication impairments secondary to acquired and progressive neurological conditions including polytrauma using informal and formal assessment measures to contribute to a differential diagnosis. Provide specialist assessment of swallowing impairments secondary to a range of pathologies. Devise and implement individual rehabilitation plans for our clients with complex acquired communication and swallowing disorders ensuring the interventions are of the highest standard using evidence based practice. To assess the need for alternative communications aids and liaise with Communication Aids Centres/appropriate companies for assistance where necessary, to ensure the competent use of any aids by clients and carers. To involve clients and carers in the development and delivery of goals within the rehabilitation plan. To work closely with other members of the IDT to optimise clients outcome. To have a responsibility for developing SLT programmes and services for clients. within STEPS, under the guidance of the Lead Speech and Language Therapist. To provide advice to clients, their families and relevant staff on the management of dysphagia. To refer clients where appropriate to outside agencies on discharge and write discharge reports to ensure continuity of care. To be responsible for organizing own caseload to meet service and client priorities regularly balancing client related, professional and organizational demands. To undertake duties and responsibilities as defined in the work plan. To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of clinical risk within own client caseload. To be compliant with the clinical governance requirements operating within STEPS procedures. To carry out clinical audits as and when directed. To contribute and lead on specific projects related to service delivery e.g. quality programmes, education and training and contributing to the setting and monitoring of practice standards. To act upon and escalate issues as required following STEPS guidance and operating procedures. To take part in developing and formalising SLT systems and processes in conjunction with the wider interdisciplinary team. To ensure accurate recording and monitoring of relevant outcome measures. You will join our team and receive training in all aspects of the aseptic preparation as well as the opportunity to obtain an NVQ level 2 in pharmaceutical manufacturing to support your future career in the NHS. People who have successfully completed this training package previously and gained valuable experience within in our team have gone on to become fully qualified pharmacy technicians or work in a quality control environment. Our team offers a unique experience to gain experience of healthcare, aseptic production and quality management systems Your salary will start on 75% of band 3 as per annex 21 in the 1st 12 months whilst you are completing the training package. Follows Good Manufacturing Practice for all procedures within the aseptic facility. Cleaning of the cabinets. Cleaning of the floors, work surfaces and furniture in accordance with agreed procedures and frequency. Labelling and packaging of aseptically prepared products. Ordering of materials for the aseptic unit. Replenishing of stock items within the aseptic unit. Completes all necessary paperwork and liaises with the Senior Pharmacy Technician / Deputy Senior technician (aseptic) regarding stock discrepancies. Transfer sanitisation of items into the cabinets for assembly using agreed techniques/ Working in all positive and negative pressure isolators, and laminar air flow cabinets within the suite to dispense, measure and manipulate sterile doses using good aseptic technique. Delivering aseptic preparations to the wards and departments in line with pharmacy procedures and to maintain the cold chain. Assist in environmental monitoring or testing as required. Assists in audits within the aseptic unit. General housekeeping duties including the removal of waste in accordance with departmental and trust policies. To follow advice on working within the cabinets to avoid strain and minimise the risk of RSI injuries. To work closely with other staff in the aseptic suite and department, especially other Assistants, in contributing to the smooth, safe and efficient running of the service. Delivering dispensary items to the wards and departments on agreed timed rounds. Acts as a Mentor for NVQ 2 students within the aseptic unit and assists with training when required. To use appropriate IT technology when necessary. Has a working knowledge of other Pharmacy Assistant roles. Produce workload figures (IV and TPN) and ensures that these are available to senior staff on a monthly basis. To maintain a safe system of work at all times, including the knowledge of and abiding by the Fire precautions, departmental and trust safety policies and procedure manuals following any Standard Operating Procedures in place. Participation in training and monitoring systems to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective service. Participate in the trust appraisal scheme. To promote the professional image of pharmacy within the trust by ensuring that the standard of dress and behaviour reflects the professional service offered by the pharmacy department.
