Principal Elements of the post will be:-

· To Supervise and train junior medical staff

· At LRI we have shared responsibility for beds on wards 9, Day ward, the Kinmonth Unit and paediatric wards

- At LGH we have shared responsibility for beds on Medical Day Case Unit

· Clinical sessions as laid out in the job plan

· Teaching, research and administration.

· Develop the service along with the other ENT Consultants at UHL.

· To take part in the adult & paediatric on call rota, 1:8 frequency.

Other Duties:-

The successful candidate will be required to undertake managerial duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their Clinical Department.

Adult ENT patients at LRI are managed on Ward 9 which is a 18 bedded mixed adult ward shared with plastic surgery and maxillofacial surgery. The Kinmonth Unit provides high dependency care for airway patients and patients undergoing head and neck surgery. We also have an Adult Surgical Dayward located on Balmoral Level 2 adjacent to the theatres.

The department of ENT is an extremely busy one, providing a combination of 35 inpatient and day case operating lists with dedicated paediatric theatres. These are all run through the central operating department and Surgical Day Ward.

Our outpatient department is a dedicated ENT department supported by audiology currently based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary with plans to expand into the Elective Care HUB at the Leicester General Hospital at the end of the year. The outpatients department provides accommodation for the medical staff in fully equipped individual consulting rooms.

The East Midlands Planned Care Centre (EMPCC) at the Leicester General Hospital will consist of two theatres, 21 recovery beds (4 first stage & 17 second stage) and 12 post operative recovery beds with a Medical Day Case Unit consisting of 18 medical daycase treatment areas. There will be an outpatients department which has 14 outpatient clinic rooms, 4 procedures rooms & 6 recovery beds. ENT will have access to 1 all-day extended theatre list 3 times a week, 2 clinic rooms 6 days a week and an audiology booth.

ENT also support community clinics, which are currently run in Loughborough, Melton Mowbray, Oakham, Market Harborough, Hinckley and Coalville.

ENT support a busy Childrens and Adults Emergency department.

Locum Consultant in HPB Surgery

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding consultant surgeon colleague to join our team of HPB Consultant Surgeons based at Leicester Glenfield Hospital. We are looking to appoint one fixed term (12 months) post, with a view to a permanent role.

Leicester has a large thriving HPB department which covers a catchment area of over 2 million. The unit undertakes over 80 pancreatic surgeries annually and over 120 liver resections. Leicester has a thriving research and teaching record. The unit work closely as a team delivering the best possible care for their patients. The Leicester HPB department also hosts the largest ERCP department in England undertaking over 1000 ERCPs annually. Leicester is also one of only 4 national centers who have been commissioned to undertake TPIAT (Total pancreatectomy and isletautotransplantation) for patients with chronic pancreatitis.

This posts will principally be based at the Glenfield Hospital, although travel to other sites in Leicester and to the Alliance peripheral hospitals will be required on occasion.



PRINCIPAL ELEMENTS OF THE POST
• Responsible for the management of outpatient, day surgery and in-patients
• To lead ward rounds, outpatients and theatre activity
• Perform HPB surgical procedures including cholecystectomy and cancer resection
• Outpatient review of patients and assessment of new referrals to the department.

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.


Applications are invited for a clinical research fellow post, which offers an opportunity to undertake high quality translational clinical research in cardiac electrophysiology and devices linked primarily to AF ablation. The main project will assess the efficacy and effectiveness of high-power, short-duration approach in radiofrequency ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF). The post will also include other AF research projects.

This is a 12 month fixed term post with the potential for an extension for a further 12 months.

It is anticipated that the fellow will work under the direct supervision of consultant cardiac electrophysiologists in the department with direct supervision of Dr Hao Chin.

The applicant will be encouraged to develop towards an MD/PhD thesis. In addition, the post-holder will gain experience in the management of patients with complex arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation and cardiac devices.

The post is based within the Department of Cardiology at Glenfield Hospital and is intended to provide comprehensive training in invasive and non-invasive arrhythmia management for individuals intending to pursue a career as a cardiac electrophysiologist. Applicants are expected to have had substantial training in general cardiology and be in possession of an NTN or equivalent. In addition, applicants are expected to have a sound base of experience in device therapy for brady and tachycardia treatments. In addition basic experience in diagnostic electrophysiology is required and a clear interest and motivation to develop high-level electrophysiology and/or devices skills/experience. Successful candidates will also be encouraged to participate in research activities of the department during their fellowship, as there is good access of established academic support and expertise.

The fellow will be expected to participate in 1- 2 outpatient clinics / week within the electrophysiology service and attendance at 2-3 electrophysiology or devices lists a week is anticipated where training will be given in cardiac devices and EP with focus on AF ablations

The majority of the week will be spent in research activity. There will be no regular ward commitment. The fellow will be expect to do 1- 2 out-patient clinics per week. The opportunity to join the registrar on-call rota may be available, but is not mandatory. There is ample opportunity to participate in the management of arrhythmia patients at device clinics and whilst this is not the focus of the fellowship, access is available to invasive electrophysiology activities.

There is no mandatory commitment to the out of hours SpR rota, but there may be an opportunity to do this should a rota slot become available.

Junior Pharmacists with On-call responsibilities

As a junior pharmacist with on-call responsibilities, you will be integral in providing a 24 hour pharmacy service across all three hospitals by partaking in service provision over extended opening hours.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our motivated and enthusiastic team working on our Acute Medicine wards at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospitals. We are seeking applicants who are team players and enjoy the challenge of the acute setting. The Trust has invested significantly in our Medicine Team to support the reduction in deconditioning of patients within UHL.

The Medicine therapy team are responsible for delivering a service across the medical wards at UHL, these are based at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital. The team treat a wide variety of patients including those with frailty, respiratory, falls, diabetes and Parkinsons.

You will be working alongside a large Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to enable early rehabilitation and timely discharges of patients. We are passionate about promoting independence and preventing deconditioning in the acute hospital.

You will demonstrate excellent communication, prioritisation and time management skills. This post will be suitable for a candidate who has a wide range of rotational experience, particularly with older people with a variety of comorbidities for example Parkinson's, falls and fractures. Established respiratory physiotherapy skills would be of significant benefit in this role.

You will join a supportive team of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the Acute Medicine Team. You will receive regular supervision, appraisal and be encouraged to be involved in service development, audit and research. You will be expected to support and supervise other staff as well as provide practice placements for students.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Nurse to join our clinical team within the Cardiac Rehabilitation service.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Being a registered 1st level nurse with specialist knowledge you will be well-motivated and have a minimum of three years clinical experience at Band 5 preferably within CCU/Cardiology setting. Having continued your professional development you must also display evidence of management/leadership skills and hold a recognised teaching qualification. It is desirable to have experience of clinical audit and participation in research.

You will have a clinical caseload within the cardiac rehabilitation team and support the clinical rehabilitation team in delivering new and innovative clinical services by implementing research into clinical practice. The post holder will be multi-site based which will include working in the National Centre for Sports Science Medicine (NCSEM) based at Loughborough University and other UHL and non-UHL sites.

This is a 6 month secondment post. The post is open to suitably qualified nurses with relevant clinical experience.

To be responsible for the rehabilitation of patients with cardiac diseases (across all phases of rehabilitation at all UHL sites to include an individual assessment and post rehabilitation patient exits, outpatient classes and education as appropriate).

Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Breast Imaging

We are delighted to invite applications for a Consultant Breast Radiologist to join an existing team of Consultant Breast Radiologists at University Hospitals of Leicester. The appointment will be up to whole time, a minimum of 5 breast sessions are required for those consultants participating in the breast screening programme. Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post on a less than full-time basis.

This post is covering both the screening and symptomatic pathways. The service strives to provide the highest standards of healthcare for our patients from our purpose-built Breast Care Centre at Glenfield Hospital.

Our breast screening programme is one of the largest in the East Midlands. Our Breast Screening population is 160,000. In addition to the screening activity our symptomatic and surveillance demand is approximately 17,000 per year. We are a centre that is actively involved in clinical trials and have successfully secured Tomosynthesis and Contrast Enhanced Mammography equipment. There is also the opportunity to practice a wide range of diagnostic and interventional procedures including breast MRI and increasing use of vacuum assisted biopsy.



To undertake programmed activities in breast imaging with the potential for some agreed general duties if appropriate. Opportunities for development of the existing service will be supported where they reflect and support the needs of the local population and the development plans of the trust.
• To contribute to the cancer two week wait service and participate in symptomatic breast one stop clinics and other relevant activity.
• To contribute to the work of the National Breast Screening Service by ensuring adequate film reading numbers, participation in screening assessment and other relevant activity.
• To work closely with the breast clinicians, breast care nurses, breast pathologists and breast surgeons.
• To perform breast interventional work, including USS and x-ray biopsy (core or VACB / VACE), USS and x-ray localisations, US guided aspiration, marker insertion.
• To supervise and report advanced breast imaging such as MRI and CESM
• To lead/take part in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
• To undertake programmed activities in general radiology imaging if agreed and appropriate. This may include contributing to the general on call for imaging.
• To supervise and train radiology trainees, skill-mix radiographers, sonographers and non-medical staff in their present and anticipated roles.

The Breast Imaging Services are an identified unit within the Clinical Support & Imaging Clinical Management Group, (CSI CMG), based at Glenfield Hospital. The post holder will join a team of ten Consultant Breast Radiologists in an established multidisciplinary setting.


The Leicestershire and Rutland Breast Screening Service (LBSS) is one of the largest in the country with a current screening population of approximately 164,000; the first phase of NHSBSP Age Extension has been fully implemented and continues. The symptomatic breast service provides a high quality diagnostic, treatment and management pathway through a
one stop clinic. The unit also provides breast cancer surveillance and screening of increased risk patients. Approximately 950 cancers are detected per year. The unit is fully digital and has state of the art equipment, and most recently has introduced Tomosynthesis, MRI Biopsy and Contrast Enhanced Mammography.


The Breast Imaging Team actively leads and participates in audit and research. It undergoes regular NBSS QA and is proud of its record in this service. All the radiologists are part of the RCR Breast Group both participating in, and contributing to national meetings.

All breast radiologists (and advanced practitioners) participate in PERFORMS. There is regular audit of clinical practice – interval cancers, MRI, VACB including 1st line, core biopsy sampling and screen reading. The team participate in regular departmental and governance meetings.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to departmental quality improvement activity and the clinical supervision of postgraduate trainees in Anaesthesia. The UHL Department of Anaesthesia is committed to working towards the Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation scheme of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.



The overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

· Responsibility for the provision of a safe and efficient Obstetric anaesthetic service for elective theatres and delivery suite emergency care at UHL including preoperative assessment and perioperative care.
• To provide specialist high-risk Obstetric anaesthesia outpatient clinic work:

· To participate in the Obstetric Consultant Anaesthetist non-resident on-call rota as well as evening and weekend resident rota.

· To support the Anaesthetic department in delivering high quality elective and emergency theatre sessions and provide flexibility to support theservice.

· To work flexibly to support the workload and cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences. Flexibility within the role will be required as we reconfigure, working towards a single-site UHL maternity service.
• To participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with the other Consultants in the department, the CMG and local GPs and commissioners within the local CCGs;
• Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures;
• Participating in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in CPD – CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory; Managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate and compliance with standing orders and standing financial instructions of the Trust.;
• In line with GMC Good Medical Practice it is the responsibility of the post-holder to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work.
• The post-holder is expected to participate in teaching and training of junior staff and other clinical staff groups. The appointee will also have supervision responsibilities for junior medical staff within the specialty. If appropriate the post-holder will be named in the contract of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers.
• The post-holder is expected to participate in professional continuing medical education; study leave is provided for this purpose.
• The post-holder will be expected to undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific Induction and competency Programmes appropriate to role.
• The post-holder will be required to maintain their continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate. We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic individual to join the head and neck cancer nurse specialist team at University Hospitals of Leicester. The CNS team are friendly, supportive and have a strong team working approach.



As a Head and Neck Cancer CNS you will work as part of the nursing and Multi-disciplinary team ensuring that patients with head and neck cancer receive the highest standard of care and support from the time of diagnosis and throughout the cancer pathway.



We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated individual with excellent organisational and communication skills and can work both autonomously and as part of a team. Relevant post registration experience is essential and knowledge of head and neck nursing would be beneficial but not essential as a full training and supervision package will be tailored to meet your needs.

The purpose of the post is to manage and provide expert specialist clinical practice for both outpatients and inpatients (NHS and private patients (delete as appropriate). The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) acts as a keyworker for the patient. The CNS will lead in the use of evidence-based clinical practice in line with current research, guidelines and other available evidence. They will ensure that patients and their families are fully informed about their journey through the service. The CNS will liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team when required to ensure delivery of reliable high quality care.

As integral member of the MDT you will be involved in developing nursing practice- strengthening and developing links across cancer networks. The head and neck MDT also have a strong research network and are involved in many research projects to improve patient care and treatment you will be expected to support this as part of your role.

Work autonomously, providing an effective nurse-led service as needs dictate.

Demonstrate comprehensive holistic assessment of patients utilising a variety of advanced clinical skills, while acting as a role model, in line with the Clinical Nurse Specialist role for the service.
