An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, organised and efficient Midwifery Matron for Safe Staffing. This is a visible role providing day to day leadership for maintaining safe staffing across the maternity service. As the Matron for Safe Staffing, you will bring your midwifery expertise to support the clinical decision making to maximise the provision of midwifery and support worker staffing to clinical areas of the service.

The post holder in conjunction with Deputy Head of Midwifery, Head of Midwifery and Lead Nurse for Safe Staffing will lead on workforce utilisation and safe staffing across the maternity service. You will support the provision of sustainable staffing which is safe, effective and affordable.

Safe staffing planning:

To maintain and manage safe midwifery and support worker staffing across all acute inpatient areas

Create and maintain midwifery and support worker rosters

Take a proactive approach to reviewing and where necessary facilitating shift changes with a ‘week ahead’ view.

Lead on recruitment and retention of midwifery staffing alongside the RRP midwives

Implement innovative approaches to recruitment and retention for the midwifery workforce

Take an active role in the recruitment of midwives

Produce acuity & staffing reports to support communication about safe staffing within the CMG and for UHL Board meetings

Operational responsibility:

Take responsibility for daily staffing, managing short notice gaps, mitigating risk and escalating where necessary

Lead on implementation of daily safe staffing huddles within maternity services liaising regularly with Band 7 co-ordinators and ward managers throughout the day ensuring the acuity tool is complete in a timely manner.

Attend UHL safe staffing meetings

Work closely with other midwifery matrons to monitor activity & staffing within the unit ensuring clear escalation is achieved and communicated to the relevant stakeholders

Ensure that standards are monitored and maintained and where necessary appropriate corrective action is taken.

Maintain clinical competence by undertaking rostered clinical duties on a regular basis.

Participate in the CMG out-of-hours Duty Matron rota.

The successful candidates will support the current establishment of NHS and academic staff contributing to the on-call rota, and provide senior anaesthetic cover for elective, emergency and trauma surgery.

The post is for a Consultant Anaesthetist with a specialist interest in Peri-operative medicine. The post holder will provide high quality care for patients within the Anaesthetic Department and provide perioperative care for elective and emergency patients across the range of specialties available within UHL. The candidate will join a team of consultants with an interest in Peri-operative medicine, doing High Risk pre-assessment, CPET clinics and assisting with our Prehabilitation service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST

The overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.
• Responsibility for the provision of a safe and efficient anaesthetic service for elective and emergency care at UHL including preoperative assessment and postoperative care.
• To provide specialist high-risk colorectal anaesthesia outpatient clinic work
• To participate in the General Duties Consultant Anaesthetist non-resident on-call rota and/or weekend resident rota.
• To support the Consultant-delivered Perioperative Medicine Service
• To support the cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and prehabilitation service within UHL. The candidate would be expected to work within a team consisting of four consultant anaesthetists and one respiratory physiologist whilst providing some flexibility to support the growing service.
• To support the Anaesthetic department in delivering high quality elective Max Fax and General surgical theatre sessions and provide flexibility to support the service.
• To work flexibly to support the workload and cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences. Flexibility within the role will be required as we reconfigure, working towards a single-site UHL maternity service
• To participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with the other Consultants in the department, the CMG and local GPs and commissioners within the local CCGs.
• Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures
• To contribute to and/or support research. Formal research duties taken up after commencement in post may be assessed for additional SPA time.
• Participating in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in CPD – CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory; Managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate and compliance with standing orders and standing financial instructions of the Trust.;
• In line with GMC Good Medical Practice it is the responsibility of the post-holder to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work.
• The post-holder is expected to participate in professional continuing medical education; study leave is provided for this purpose.

Biomedical Scientist (Microbiology)

This is a Locum consultant post. The post holder will be expected to work closely in the team with the existing radiologists to support the continuing development of imaging within UHL as a whole. The post holder will be covering inpatient and ED MSK imaging as part of a, currently, 1 in 10 in-hours rota. There is the opportunity to join a currently 1 in ?30 general ED/IP rota with on-call.

The appointment will be whole time. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post.
