An Introduction to the EMHP Programme at UEA The EMHP Programme at UEA uses blended learning, comprised of face-to-face teaching at UEA and online teaching, self-directed study days and supervised practice within employing MHSTs to allow trainees to develop the required clinical competence and confidence relevant to the role of an EMHP. Our team have extensive experience of working psychologically with children and young people across a range of settings and interventions. The teaching team includes lecturers with experience of delivering low intensity mental health interventions - who can use their experience to support, model and teach these skills positively alongside those with expertise in the field of children and young peoples mental health and education. We also use a range of external Associate Tutors and Guest lecturers to support teaching. Throughout the year are a range of assessments and assignments to demonstrate learning outcomes and assess clinical skills and competency. In addition to learning the theory and practice for delivering evidence-based low intensity assessments and treatments for children and young people, taught modules will cover how to work in, understand the processes of, and engage with education settings. This is afull-time training programme which requires the successful completion of each of the 6 modules outlined below, as well as a portfolio evidencing clinical practice competencies Module 1 Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Settings: Context and Values Module 2 Assessment & Engagement Module 3 Evidence-based Interventions for Common Mental Health Problems with Children and Young People (Theory and Skills) Module 4 Working, Assessing and Engaging in Educational Settings Module 5 Common Problems and Processes in Educational Settings Module 6 Interventions for Emerging Mental Health Difficulties in Educational Settings On successful completion of the course, trainees will qualify as an Educational Mental Health Practitioner with a Diploma / PG Diploma (120 credits). Key Dates and Attendance There are 70 teaching days across the calendar year with some intensive teaching blocks early in the course. These include cross modular/induction activities and top up/review sessions. Employment with NELFT will begin on Tuesday 2nd January, where you will start a 2 week induction. The Course start date for 2024 will be Tuesday 14th January. Successful candidates will be offered a full-time educational programme specifically for the role. The Essex PCN service are looking to recruit CWPs to continue to improve children and young people’s mental health services in Essex. The training forms part of the service transformation initiative delivered by NHS England as part of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health CYP Psychological Trainings (PT) (formerly CYP IAPT) programmes.

Trainees will join our already established PCN service across Essex to support young peoples mental health and wellbeing in the community.

This is a training position the post holder will undertake training at University College London alongside working in service for the Essex PCN. They will be taught to deliver evidence based guided self-help interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. They will also be taught how to deliver interventions in the community, for example, participation activities, training and group delivery. The post holder will use their newly developed skills to support children and young people who are referred into the service and trainees will receive supervision to support their professional development, as well as be expected to actively engage local communities.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. The Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner role will: Work closely as part of a team of mental health professionals delivering a wide range of evidence informed interventions, under clinical supervision (e.g., guided self-help and parenting interventions) Develop and practice evidence-based skills under clinical supervision to carry out holistic and child-centred mental health assessments, including risk assessments. • The position includes undertaking the Postgraduate Diploma in High Intensity CBT (HIT) at University of East Anglia
• If you are invited to interview, you must have with you any academic qualification certificates and evidence you hold, as applicable. Offers cannot be made without this information.
• If you do not have a BABCP recognised core profession, you must follow the KSA procedure and prepare your portfolio prior to interview. You should then email this to your UEA interviewer, who will check to ensure that the KSA requirements are met. If successful, you will submit your portfolio again during the course to be marked in full.
• All candidates must hold an undergraduate degree in a related field (exceptional consideration may be granted on a case-by-case basis to core profession candidates who fall short of this criteria)

• You will provide High-Intensity CBT interventions recommended by NICE to clients with moderate to severe common mental health disorders.
• The Trainee position is aimed at mental health professionals who have some experience in CBT and who continue to work in a mental health environment.
• Weekly supervision provided by both the university and the workplace.
• Basildon and Brentwood talking therapies service are dedicated to nurturing and developing trainees throughout and post-training.

Please note, applicants must be available to attend interviews during the week commencing the (15th and 22nd January 2024) and be available to attend all university days starting from the (8th April 2024).

Generally speaking, the role includes working 3 days per week in service (with a recommended caseload of 12 patients over 3 days) and 2 days at the university.

Preceptorship Period Post-Training

Following successful completion of training, newly qualified therapists are offered a six-month preceptorship period. The preceptorship package provides opportunity to consolidate knowledge and build confidence through reflective learning with an allocated mentor.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

• Core Professional training or qualification, or able to demonstrate that they meet the KSA requirements set by the BABCP.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a discipline connected to mental health (or ability to study at third year undergraduate degree level).
• Membership of the BABCP (from the time that the course commences).
• Availability to attend university as required.
• Experience of working in mental health services, including risk management.
• An understanding of anxiety and depression and how it presents in Primary Care.
• An understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies.
• Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets.
• Ability to manage own caseload and time.
• IT literacy and the ability to use patient record information systems, diary systems and maintain clinical records in a timely and accurate manner.
• Evidence of values that are consistent with the NHS constitution and VHG’s values.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills.
• Interpersonal skills to engage and develop working alliances with colleagues and patients, including the ability to develop good therapeutic relationships and inter-agency relationships.
• Evidence of an openness to learning new knowledge and skills.
• High level of enthusiasm and motivation.
• Willingness to travel, which may include overnight stays on occasion, as and when required.

Desirable:

• Evidence of foundation level or sustained CPD in CBT.
• Evidence of supervised CBT practice.
• Experience of working in Primary Care/Talking Therapies services.
• Worked in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.

Other Requirements:

• A Disclosure and Barring check (DBS, formerly CRB) will be required by the service for appointment to post.
