Major Duties:

When called upon, to perform the duties and responsibilities as described below, the incumbent will be expected to perform core duties that are aligned with the team's mission. The incumbent is responsible for the care and maintenance of the claims folders and ensures that all pertinent records and documents are preserved and are neatly and orderly filed in chronological order in the correct compartment. Disposes of all redundant and non-record material after its initial purpose has been served. Determines the existence and location of the claims folder. Consolidates claims folder or establishes a new folder, when necessary.

Analyzes claim and determine if disposition of claim and control action has been appropriately identified. Requests information from Single Point of Entry (SPoE) units within the Department of Defense or National Archives and Record Administration pertaining to veteran's claim or determines that no such action is required.

Incumbent must have the ability to communicate effectively in writing. The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in Primary Care works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model and performs receptionist duties, customer service and other duties assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients and maintains appointment schedules for one or more outpatient clinics. Patient care is delivered in a team based model known as the teamlet. S/he works as a member of the teamlet including a Registered Nurse Care Coordinator, a Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse and a Primary Care Provider. The teamlet provides the majority of the healthcare needs for an assigned panel of patients. The teamlet works collaboratively with other members of an expanded health care team including pharmacists, social workers, dieticians, behavioral health staff, etc. to provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to care. Duties may include but are not limited to:

• Incumbent must screen/receive phone calls in courteous and timely manner, determine the nature of requests and provide the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes. A caring, compassionate, and sensitive manner is essential when explaining procedures to veterans and their family members both in person and on the phone.
