YOUR ROLE

As we expand our rail services, the Head of Rail Operations and Safety will play a critical role in ensuring safety, implementing strategic rail initiatives, and driving benefit realisation for our program. This role is pivotal in maintaining compliance with all rail legislation, MOD rail regulations, and industry standards. The Head will lead the safe, cost-effective management of daily rail operations while supporting our growth ambitions, improving management systems, and advising on commercial and contractual issues.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for both healthy and safe rail operations promoting a culture of zero harm
• Ensure all rail KPI's are delivered on a weekly, monthly, annualised basis.
• Functionally responsible as the subject matter expert to facilitate an increase in rail freight across the contract.
• Facilitate timely and efficient implementation of future rail strategy initiatives, delivering on the Customer's green agenda
• Deliver on proposed strategy and work with Customer to facilitate an increase of rail transport across the contract.
• Provide project management governance and expertise on all new rail operational opportunities
• Create, manage and monitor rail budget for Business as usual and any new projects.
• Develop and enforce compliance legal requirements regulations and operating standards.
• Ensure that rail operations are delivered in line with industry good practice

What you will do:

Bid Managers are responsible for efficiently delivering bids end-to-end, while keeping in line with Telent's bid governance procedures, so we are looking for process-oriented, methodical people. At the same time, we expect our bid managers to provide constructive challenge when things stand in the way of good customer service or process improvement - we need people who can adhere to best practice but who are always looking to improve how we do things.

Who you are:

We are looking for experienced passionate and driven individuals who would like to join our team and help us shape the future of our Rail offerings. As a bid manager in our Rail division, you will lead bids into high-profile customers such as Network Rail and TfL. You will coordinate and manage bid teams (consisting of subject matter experts, bid writers and commercial leads) to develop compelling written and financial submissions that help us secure exciting, technically challenging, and commercially viable projects.

In Telent bid managers also coordinate inputs to the bid cost model. Good excel skills and commercial acumen would be desirable, but training and support are available to help with this aspect of bidding.

This role reports to the Business Development Director. You will be part of a team based at our Warwick site, where you will be required to attend at least 1 day a week, the rest can be done from home.

Typical Deliverables:

The end-to-end management & production of timely, high quality and ultimately successful bids in keeping with Telent's bid procedures.

This will include:

• Developing bid winning strategies in partnership with the opportunity owner & business heads
  Producing material from Go/No Go stage through to deal review, bid submission & win / loss reviews
  Post bid submission support including coordinating responses to clarification questions and supporting customer presentations.
• Bid and Proposal feedback and reviews - won & lost - including recommendations for improvement.

Business Operations Skills & Qualifications

• Previous in-depth Bid Management experience
• Involved in high profile complex bid with values of £5-6 Million pounds.
• Excellent attention to detail, be driven and well organised.
• A proven ability to write and 'Red Review' answers to tender questions to a winning standard.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.

Essential:

• Experience of producing high (£10m+) and medium-value (£5m+) bids to the public sector in an environment such as Rail (ideally) or similar such as Intelligent Transport System, Defence, Transport and Emergency Services markets.
• Strong project management and organisational skills.
• In depth Bid Management experience.
• Ability to present, persuade and influence at all levels via strong interpersonal communications skills.

The Head of Work Based Learning is responsible for the leadership and management of the Engineering Apprenticeship Work Based Learning curriculum area. With direct accountability for the success and positive progression of the student cohort under the leadership of the Director of Engineering Apprenticeships and Jaguar Land Rover Programmes.

The post holder will be accountable for curriculum, resource & financial management, and quality assurance.
