Yarl’s Wood IRC (Immigration Removal Centre) is a fully contained residential centre housing adult women and adult family groups awaiting immigration clearance. We focus on decency and respect in all aspects of care for our residents and use continuous innovation to further improve and develop our service. Within the centre we accommodate an everchanging population from a variety of backgrounds, all with different faiths, beliefs, and cultural values.
Here at Serco, Here at Serco we’re looking for a Hairdresser to join our close knit and supportive team at Yarl’s Wood Immigration and Removal Centre. Reporting to the Regimes/Activities Manager, the hairdresser/barber is responsible for providing a hairdressing service to both male and female residents. You will work closely with the regimes team to ensure that an appropriate service is provided.
As a hairdresser, you will be providing a hairdressing/barbering service at the times and places stated in the agreed daily schedule. You will be responsible for maintaining an effective appointment system, offering a range of services to meet the needs of the residents whilst ensuring that the appropriate staff are advised of your presence at your designated place of work.
You will be treating all residents with dignity and respect regardless of age, ethnic group, religion, sex, sexual orientation or language as well as maintaining appropriate records of tools and equipment in line with Managers Rules by establishing and maintaining positive and professional relationships with residents.
You will be reporting concerns of any nature to your manager. Specifically, any information that could impact on the safety and security of the centre as well as contributing to the achievement of good communication within Yarl’s Wood IRC in line with the local Communications Strategy. This will also include adhering to all SMS policies and report any failures to comply with these policies, ensuring compliance with the contract at all times and reporting any potential or actual failings to comply to the terms within the Hair Salon.
You will therefore be contributing to good practice across the whole business, striving for continuous improvement at all times.
What you need to do the job:
To be considered for this role you will need to hold at least a level 2 in hairdressing qualification.
You will have experience of working in a fast-paced environment and working in beauty therapies will be an advantage, as well as cutting male hair in addition to having knowledge of both Caucasian and Afro Caribbean and Asian hair and up to date styles.
