About Us

In September 2019, MacIntyre Academies Trust opened a new and exciting Academy in a purpose-built state of the art building in Rugby, Warwickshire for approximately 100 children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs and/or autism, aged between 7 years and 19 years. The new school has specialist facilities including a sensory room, therapy room, interactive immersive classroom, soft playroom, recording studio and photography suite. We are very proud of our holistic curriculum which enables the pupils to benefit from blended therapy in the classroom. We have a café located at the front of the school where parents can meet, and the pupils can display the items they have made within the school which will be available to purchase. We are passionate about supporting our pupils and families from the local community to ensure the best outcomes.

Whilst the new building was being constructed the academy was located in a temporary modern school building on theoutskirts of Nuneaton and opened with 30 pupils in September 2017 rising to 55 pupils in September 2018.

The Role

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to join this exciting school, this is a really exciting opportunity to bepart of something very special from the start.

Reporting to the Principal at Quest Academy, you will provide a specialised child-centred speech and language therapyservice to children and young people aged between 8 to 19 years of age who have autism and associated complex needsacross the academy, undertaking assessment, interpretation of assessment results, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, adviceand review.

You will also work closely with internal and external stakeholders to successfully contribute to the delivery of the vision, ethos, aims and objectives of the academy; in turn, enabling successful learning and achievement by young people and sustained improvement in their spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical well-being in preparation for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

About You

You will hold a recognized professional Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent and be both a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and also hold registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

You will have demonstrative experience of working within Specialist Education supporting children and young people with Autism and learning disabilities who have severe and complex speech, language and communication needs and knowledge of statutory legislation concerning social care work including Health and Safety and Protection of Children and Young People.

Candidates will be expected to have at least two years band 5 experience with recent Cardiology/CCU and cardiac day ward experience to enable you to lead the team day to day and during an emergency.

The post-holder would join a team of seven Consultant Cardiologists each with varying specialty interests. In addition there is a compliment of one Associate Specialist, one Senior Staff Grade, one Clinical Fellow and three Specialist Registrars (2 x ST3 and 1 50:50 NIHR Clinical Lecturer post).

There has been an on-site invasive cardiology and permanent pacemaker implantation service for over 20 years. There is a well-developed non-invasive service including cardiac CT and 3-D complex echocardiography including stress echocardiography and 3-D TOE. Education is well-supported and research is strongly encouraged. There are regular MDT meetings with cardiac surgeons/interventional cardiologist and electrophysiologists from Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

The post holder will contribute to the provision of outpatient and inpatient care, participate in the out-of-hours on-call service and contribute to laboratory service. The successful candidates will also participate in the in-patient haematology referral reviews and consultant on-call rota, which will be a 1 in 6 frequency.

Our Haematology medical team at Wirral University Hospital Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, currently comprises of 4.0 WTE Haematology consultants covering Haematology services across Arrowe Park Hospital. This department is supported by one Specialist Registrar, two F2s and one CT2. In addition, there is one Nurse Consultant, 1.8 WTE Specialist Nurses and 1.0 WTE Support Nurses covering the Arrowe Park site.

The successful candidate will also be provided with a designated office, secretary and computer. All newly appointed colleagues will also be offered a consultant mentor.

Additional SPA is available for additional roles in the department (Clinical/Educational Supervisor etc. There is a local agreement at WUTH that an additional 2 hours per week SPA are accommodated in monthly audit sessions and teaching during DCC commitments. Flexible and partial remote working patterns are readily considered.

The successful diagnostic candidate will participate in the diagnostic on-call rota and will provide weekend working sessions as part of their DCC. There is a 1 PA weekly allowance for diagnostic on-call duties and weekend working time. The diagnostic consultant on call is 2nd on call. 1st on call is a combination of the regional registrar hub and evening/overnight outsourcing company. Interventional on call is shared with The Countess of Chester Hospital and is 1st on call.

The successful candidate will be expected to take an active role in service development and redesign as well as collaboration with other local service providers.
