Job Description
Music and Theatre, in the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas, invites applications for a non-tenure-track position in percussion beginning August 2024. We seek an engaging artist-teacher of percussion with the ability to teach multiple genres and styles. Primary teaching responsibilities include teaching applied percussion to undergraduate students, including music education majors, performance majors, and non-majors. Additional duties include assisting the Director of Bands by leading the Marching Band drum line, assisting with band rehearsals, and teaching other percussion-related courses, including Percussion Ensemble, pedagogy, techniques, and literature.
The successful candidate will be able to engage the community and region to recruit students, advocate for the performing arts and music education, and successfully network with music education professionals in regional high schools and community colleges.

Minimum Requirements:
- Doctorate in Music, or a masters in Music with equivalent professional experience, commensurate to advanced graduate studies in Music.
- Experience teaching applied percussion to students of varying abilities.
Preferred Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, and successfully oversee student degree completion, and their accomplishments should reflect their commitment to advocating for and working with an inclusive student population.
Rank: Instructor, non-tenure-track
Appointment Date: August 2024, this is a one-year contract.

Salary: Faculty salaries are set at 90% of current College and University Professional Association (CUPA) averages by rank and discipline.

About the Program:
Music and Theatre, in the School of Visual and Performing Arts, consists of 15 full-time-faculty and offers B.M. degrees in Music Education, Music Performance, and Music Composition, as well as B.A. degrees in music and theatre. The program offers a wide variety of performances to the public including music theatre, opera, instrumental and vocal ensembles, chamber music, the Tiger Marching Band, the Hays Symphony, theatrical performances, and faculty artist and guest artist recitals. The program is housed in Malloy Hall and consists of two rehearsal halls, a theatre, several classroom spaces, practice rooms, and faculty studios.
