Mechanical Technician
Full Time – Shift patterns vary between 0700 & 1900 hours for an 8-hour periodGreat Western Hospital, Wiltshire
Salary £28,000

Serco are recruiting for a Mechanical Technician to join the team at Great Western Hospital. This role will ensure safe and efficient maintenance of the mechanical services and equipment within the hospital, as directed by Estates Supervisors and Management. This is a shift-based role, Monday
- Sunday to cover on site operational hours of 0700 to 19:00 and also be part of an on call rota from 19:00 07:00. Main Accountabilities:
- To carry out reactive repairs, fault finding, servicing commissioning and maintenance to a wide range of Services, Plant and Equipment such as Boiler systems /AHU / Chiller Plant within all areas of the Hospital as directed by Supervisors or Managers.
- Provide detailed impact assessments and risks for significant shutdowns and operations to the Management Team for consideration and sharing with key stakeholders
- Plan and schedule major interruptions, maintenance activities, co-ordinate work of contractors
- Analysis and diagnosis of faults in complex, multi-faceted equipment
- To carry out Planned Preventive Maintenance to a wide range of Plant and Equipment.
- To work in accordance with all relevant Serco Policies & Procedures, Workplace Regulations and Best Practice Guidelines
- To take a proactive approach to the development and review of Health & Safety systems, work instructions and working practices
- To work in a safe and responsible manner with full regard for own and other’s safety at all times
- Be prepared to train and develop Apprentices and Trainees as appropriate and directed.
- Be prepared to develop and mentor others within the team
- To attend work in compliance with the Computerised Time & Attendance System
- To use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
- To be prepared to attend work or work beyond expected finishing time in exceptional circumstances, as requested by Supervisors or Managers
- Communicate to Supervisors or Managers unrepaired faults or defects or requirements for Spare Parts
- To attend on-site and off-site training as required
- To be aware of how the Technician Role influences Serco’s GWH Contract
- Contract and the wider company objectives
- Be prepared to take on Authorised Person Duties which could include but not limited to Pressure systems, Legionella RP, Ventilation, Medical Gas (All training will be provided)
- Requirement to work shifts covering Monday
- Sunday to cover on site operational hours of 7:00 – 19:00
- Be part of an on-call rota from 19:00 – 07:00
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Previous experience in engineering with transferable skills (repair motors, bearing replacements etc)
- Level 3 Certificate/Diploma/NVQ in a mechanical discipline– in Mechanics or other mechanical qualification
- BOAS Trained
- L8/HSG274 Training
- HTM 02 Medical Gas Training
- HTM 03 Ventilation Training
- HTM 04 Water hygiene Training
- Proven experience of working in a similar environment
- Knowledge and understanding of Mechanical Building Services
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Member of appropriate technical body advantageous but not essential
