Job objectives and responsibilities
Managing all aspects of security and operations, maintaining a secure and safe prison, and ensuring compliance with PSI and Policy frameworks. Procedures must conform with the latest Policy Frameworks. High standards must be maintained to achieve positive outcomes in OSAG and IPCO audits. Compliance with contractual requirements, company policies, and procedures, as well as HMPPS standards, policies, and procedures where applicable, is essential. This role also involves undertaking the role of Duty Director and Chair Adjudications. Supporting, supervising, motivating, and monitoring staff to ensure an effective service is delivered across the prison is crucial. Leading on the delivery of a safe, secure, and decent environment, creating a ‘Rehabilitative & Restorative Culture' for staff and prisoners, is a key responsibility.
Person Specification
Essential experience includes operational experience in prisons at a senior level, previous relevant experience in a custodial or secure environment, and managerial experience of leading a team of 5-15 staff. Basic to intermediate IT skills, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with some experience of updating central data systems, are also required.
Preferred experience encompasses technical knowledge of relevant prison legislation, policies, standards, inspection and audit processes, and knowledge of the wider criminal justice system. Silver command training, successful completion of incident and hostage management training, and adjudication training are also preferred.
Preferred qualifications include qualifications or relevant experience equivalent to Level 3 or above, such as A levels, Advanced Apprenticeships, AS Levels, International Baccalaureate diplomas, Level 3 Awards, Certificates and Diplomas, and Level 3 NVQ accreditations.
