You will join the Legal and Compliance Department which provides relevant, concise clear risk-based legal advice and professional legal services, often under pressure, to Faculties, Schools, Research Institutes, Professional Services and to Governance bodies across the University's academic, commercial and compliance activities.
Whilst this is a fixed term contract, you will be joining the team at an exciting time. The role will be busy and you will work mostly without supervision in a friendly, professional team comprising Lawyers, the Information Governance Officer and an Administrator.
As a small team we have close working relationships and support each other to make the best use of our collective skills. The team would welcome someone who has ambition for continuous improvement in our work, is positive and able to proactively support colleagues to build the team and our joint strategy.
You will report to the Head of Legal & Compliance (Head of L & C). The role is varied, requiring flexibility, but will include:
• providing advice about academic partnerships and about commercial and contractual relationships and agreements
• advising about complaints, disputes, litigation and other proceedings
• providing advice to support academic research including on regulation, IP, licences, consultancy and collaboration agreement
• maintaining effective relationships with external panel and working with the Head of Legal and Compliance to secure cost-effective external advice as appropriate
• working independently and under time pressure, to deliver practical risk-based advice to a range of colleagues, whilst maintaining excellent working relationships and engendering trust.
Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement.

Interviews are likely to take place week commencing Monday 5th February 2024 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not.
