National Highways is recruiting a Lighting and Electrical Technician to join our Engineering Team within our Operations Directorate in the Midlands region.
We offer this role from our Mansfield, Nottingham office. From time to time there will be a requirement to travel between our offices and those of our stakeholders and partners. Please note that the role may also require work during unsociable hours.
The team is responsible for the asset management of the street lighting and electrical assets within the region. This includes everything including feeder pillars with the incoming public electricity supply, lighting columns and lanterns, illuminated signs and bollards and subways via a private cable network.
The team is responsible for the following functions;
Asset Data; Update and maintain the asset data within an asset database.
MRP; Providing the proposed annual routine maintenance program to Service Delivery.
Inspection Reports; Technically reviewing the Electrical Test and Inspection and Column Structural reports that come back from Service Delivery that are gathered as part of MRP.
Needs Identification and prioritisation; Using data from the inspection reports list the needs for assets nearing the end of their service life and prioritise them.
Scheme Development; Identifying the scope of renewals projects identified by the prioritised needs and take them through a governance process. Followed by the next stage involves identifying options which includes arranging for technical surveys, and preliminary design.
Design Reviews and Technical Approvals; Whether the scheme has been promoted as part of our capital renewals program, third party developers or Major Projects we will liaise and provide a Design for Maintenance Review and where applicable provide technical approval.
Scheme Delivery Support; We are consulted on Material Approvals, provide a brief technical support to the construction teams on site during the construction stage
This all then loops back to Asset Data and the cycle starts again.
You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full UK driving license to be considered for this position.
What you’ll be leading on
Ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each project.
Support the evaluation of the electrical and structural test results in order to develop future maintenance and renewals solutions.
Scope and prepare survey requirements to support asset renewal schemes.
Input into the development of early solutions for renewals, including the compiling of relevant documents, evidence and options in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
Updating as-built drawings using AutoCAD, undertaking lighting designs using Lighting design software and undertaking cable calculations
Maintaining records
Providing technical support to the site teams during surveys and construction. Inspecting works.
To be successful
Qualified to Level 3 Qualification, BTEC, NVQ or other relevant qualification with relevant experience in Electrical Engineering or, Qualified Electrician to either City and Guilds 2360, 2330, 2365, NVQ level 3 qualification or equivalent.
Preferably be qualified with City and Guilds 2391 initial and Periodic Electrical Inspection and Testing.
Have AutoCAD and lighting design experience
Be able to demonstrate visualisation of construction projects from design information such as drawings.
Have an awareness and understanding of Health and Safety.
Have an awareness of the components that make up a road lighting installation.
