Purpose of the position

To assist in the assembly of Titan systems. Production of control circuit cabling and making appropriate connections where required.

Tasks:

• Use hand tools to fit gland nuts, vents and connecting plugs into component boxes

• Use hand tools to cut electrical cables to length and fit electrical terminals using appropriate crimping tools

• To fit and secure components to the base panels using mechanical fastenings

• To assemble base boards into component boxes

• To make electrical connections in connecting plugs and components

• To dispose of any packaging materials responsibly in the designated disposal bins

• To undertake other assembly work as required in the manufacture of the Titan systems
Capability

Behavioural Competencies:

• To be able to work effectively under instruction

• To be able to determine that his work quality is at an acceptable level

The role
As an Engineering Technician, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll join a team working on one of the most complex support arrangements in operation in the UK today. You will manage this by ensuring that you know what is fitted to every Royal Navy submarine, where it is fitted, who supplies it and how it is fitted.

Day-to-day, you'll provide support and be responsible for design information management for all of in service Royal Navy Submarines.

• Maintain the configuration data, document and drawings for all items as fitted to Royal Navy submarines in accordance with a configuration management plan
• Maintain a record of the status of extant submarine technical documentation to ensure quality assurance is achieved and maintained.
• Ensure all design change management documentation is managed and maintained correctly within the Submarine Definition Database (SDD)
• Work as part of a team as a subject matter expert across Babcock, the Royal Navy, MoD and industry partners

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Engineering Technician

• Experienced Engineering Technician from a highly regulated industry
• Experience in using engineering documentation (such as drawings and technical records)
• Understanding of change management and the control of project and engineering documentation
• Ability to work independently, challenge the status quo and make judgments based on incomplete information is essential
• Strong communication skills and ability to converse at all levels

Qualifications for the Engineering Technician

• ONC/BTEC level 3 qualifications in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics discipline however we will consider applicants that can demonstrate relevant vocational experience if this isn't held
• Hold, or be willing to proactively work towards, professional recognition as an Engineering Technician with an appropriate Engineering Institution.
