The Hwei-Ee Tan lab studies the fundamental biological basis of “gut-feelings”, how bacteria in the gut signals to the host to influence physiology and behaviour. A Senior Research Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Assistant Professor Kazuyuki Kasahara at the Novena campus of the LKCMedicine. Gut microbiota influences many areas of human health from immunity to energy metabolism and host physiology. The goal of our research group is to understand how bacterial metabolism, diet-microbe, and microbe-microbe interactions influence cardiometabolic disease using experimental approaches. The RF/SRF will lead a project, recently funded by MOE, that explores the protective mechanisms of butyrate-producing bacteria against atherosclerosis. This research will primarily involve molecular biology and pathophysiology using genetically modified mice.
